Karachi Alumni of LUMS Gather for Iftar and Engagement with University Leaders

Karachi, Alumni of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Karachi congregated for an Iftar dinner on March 28, 2024, fostering community ties and discussing the institution’s future directions with university leadership.

According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the event was hosted by Ibrahim Shamsi, a LUMS alumnus from the MBA class of 1995, at his residence. The Iftar provided a platform for alumni to meet with the new Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ali Cheema, and the Director of Advancement, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, who were there to share insights into the university’s evolving role in higher education and its strategic vision.

Dr. Cheema emphasized LUMS’s commitment to making a meaningful impact through academic excellence, research, and community engagement. He discussed the challenges faced by Pakistan, including energy, water management, and climate change, comparing the country’s development trajectory with that of Bangladesh. He also outlined how LUMS plans to address these national challenges through its initiatives, including the National Outreach Programme and financial aid schemes.

The gathering allowed for constructive dialogue between the alumni and university officials, focusing on how the alumni network can aid LUMS in its mission to contribute to solving Pakistan’s complex issues. The event not only served as a reunion but also as a brainstorming session for fostering collaborative efforts between the university and its alumni.
