Bahawalpur, May 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): Governor Punjab pays rich tributes to veteran journalist, Islam Zamir Governor Punjab, Engr. Muhammad Baligh-Ur-Rehman has paid rich tributes to veteran journalist, Islam Zamir and stressed the need to promote positive journalism in order to promote positive values in the society. He said this while addressing Condolence Reference of late veteran journalist and former head of Associated Press of Pakistan Bahawalpur Station, Mr. Islam Zamir. The ceremony was organized by Directorate of Public Relations, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) at Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall, Abbasia Campus IUB. Remembering services of veteran journalist, Islam Zamir, he said that society needed positive role of journalism.

He rejected the impression that promoting fake news and negative journalism was a success, adding that but instead achievement of success was in promotion of positive journalism. He remembered that late, Islam Zamir played a positive and model role in journalism field. “I remembered that senior journalist, Islam Zamir never encouraged negative journalism,” he said. He said that Mr. Zamir had good name in the field of journalism and in circle of friends. He said that Mr. Zamir was man of positive values who always worked for noble cause of positive journalism. “Veteran Journalist, Islam Zamir always filed authentic and verified news stories,” Governor Punjab said. He said that he felt sadness whenever he remembered that Mr. Zamir had left the world. He said that Mr. Zamir was eye witness of several important and historical events of Bahawalpur.

He added that Mr. Zamir had also earned respect in the circles of civil and military bureaucracy. He remembered that he joined meetings of his late father with senior journalists, Islam Zamir and his brother Khalid Zamir. He said that democracy was best system which always encouraged everyone to get their due rights. He emphasized the need to promote positive values in society. Delivering his speech, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Engr. Prof Dr. Athar Mahbood said that he enjoyed good company and friendship with senior journalist, Islam Zamir. “Mr. Zamir was a loving person who always loved his friends and other people,” he said. He said that Mr. Zamir told him about important events of Bahawalpur region. He said that Mr. Zamir was encyclopaedia of information about civil and military bureaucracy.

He also recalled that Mr. Zamir gifted him a pair of white peacock which was rare species of birds. Director, Public Relations Department, Government of Punjab, Mr. Nasir Hameed said that veteran journalist, Islam Zamir won hearts of friends by his good attitudes and behave. He said that Mr. Zamir always loved the Holy Prophet (PUBH) and always joined ceremonies of Rabi-Ul-Awwal. Director, Radio Station, Mr. Sajjad said that he learned from senior journalist, Islam Zamir about important aspects of journalism. He said that Mr. Zamir had remarkable services for official media, APP as well as mainstream media. “Mr. Zamir had status of a teacher in the field of journalism,” he said. President, Bahawalpur Press Club, Muhammad Akmal Chohan said that senior journalist, Islam Zamir played very significant role for the welfare of journalism community as president of Bahawalpur Press Club.

He said that it was an honor for journalist community that IUB organized condolence reference of late, Islam Zamir, senior journalist and former head of APP Bahawalpur Station. He demanded of Governor Punjab and VC, IUB to make scholarship for media studies in IUB by giving it name after Islam Zamir Scholarship. Former president, Bahawalpur Press Club, Shahid Akhtar Baloch said that senior journalist, Islam Zamir was identity of journalism of Bahawalpur. “The services of veteran journalist, Islam Zamir will remain in our memories for long time,” he said. Senior journalist and Columnist, Inam Ul Haque Rashid said that veteran journalist, Islam Zamir worked a lot for welfare of journalists and Bahawalpur Press Club.

He said that in the history, Zafar Ali Khan, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi and few other journalists promoted positive values of journalism, adding that as well as veteran Journalist, Islam Zamir promoted positive journalism in Bahawalpur region. Civil society leader, Farooq Ahmad Khan said that veteran journalist, Islam Zamir was star of journalism of Bahawalpur. He said that he would be remembered as a teacher of journalists of Bahawalpur.
