Equality to contribute to national development: Augustine 

Lahore, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Mr Ejaz Alam Augustine has said that there was a need to give practical meaning to the lesson of equality for strengthening the development of the country. He was addressing a ceremony to honour Christian staff of Punjab University organized by the Department of Social Work at Al Raazi Hall here on Thursday. Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Member Provincial Assembly Usman Kardar, Sadia Sohail, Youdester Chohan, Chairperson Prof Dr Syeda Mahnaz Hassan, Dr Aliya Khalid, social worker, Christian staff, senior faculty members and a large number of students participated in the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Augustine said that Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) had preached to deal with followers of other religions in a good manner. He said that we must figure out those elements who fanned hate on the basis of religion, ideology etc. He said that nobody should use religion to fulfill negative desires. He appreciated the role of Punjab University in promotion of interfaith harmony.

Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal said that we needed to promote interfaith harmony in the light of the directions of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Dr Mehnaz said that diversity was the basic principle of the universe. She said that self-respect was the basic right of every human being. She said that we needed to work together for establishing peace in the society. She said that Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) was the biggest social worker in the history. Later, the Christmas cake was cut and gifts were distributed among the Christians.
