CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah should stop water theft in Sindh instead of levelling baseless allegations against Punjab: Moonis Elahi

Lahore, August 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi has said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah should stop water theft in Sindh instead of levelling baseless allegations against Punjab, CM Sindh has recently levelled allegation against IRSA for providing water for early Kharif Sindh 35% as compared to Punjab which is totally contrary to the reality.

Stating the facts Moonis Elahi said that this year because of less rains, low temperatures in Northern Areas and delayed melting of snow, 10.94 MAF less water in early Kharif was obtained than usual became available, due to this less than normal water was available to Sindh province and Punjab province up to June for agricultural purposes but during last three months improvement of water situation in the rivers and even still Punjab is getting 4% less water in the fields still whereas Sindh is facing 0% shortage situation.

He said that Chief Minister Sindh should remember that river ways in Punjab are 2600 miles and comparatively only 600 miles long in Sindh whereas quite surprisingly from 2004 to 2019 in bigger province Punjab loss of water on average was only 4% whereas in Sindh it was recorded at 29%, for eliminating baseless and exaggerated reporting of water wastage and for ensuring equitable distribution of water among the provinces the federal government is taking measures for installation of telemetric system at 17 most important points on Indus Basin.

Federal Minister Moonis Elahi has requested Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah not to give importance to the saying of those sources who are providing him wrong facts and figures, currently major problems of Pakistan are climate change, increasing population, lessening of rivers water and underground water and we all have to tackle these problems together. Moonis Elahi said that I will fully try as the Minister for Water Resources to eliminate water problems confronting the country along with all provinces.
