Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Calls for Stronger Legislation to Combat Child Labour in Pakistan

Karachi, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has described child labour as detrimental to society and emphasized the importance of legislative and social reforms to eradicate it. He acknowledged past efforts, including those initiated by his mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and highlighted recent advancements in Sindh to combat this issue.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Chairman PPP recalled the first National Child Labour Survey conducted under his mother’s leadership in 1996 as a significant step towards addressing child labour. He also praised the PPP’s governance in Sindh for enacting the Sindh Prohibition of Employment of Children Bill in 2017, which includes strict penalties for violators and provides comprehensive protection under various laws.

Chairman Bilawal stressed the need for continuous action and improvements across all provinces, not just Sindh, to provide better protection for children against labour exploitation. He endorsed the 2024 theme for the World Day Against Child Labour, urging a unified approach to fulfilling commitments towards ending child labour. His message concluded with a call for decisive and compassionate action to ensure the well-being and successful future of children in Pakistan.
