Islamabad: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has taken a significant step towards sustainability by signing a contract with Foundation Solar Energy (Pvt) Ltd (FSEL) for the installation and commissioning of a 3.5 MW Solar PV System at its H-12 Campus in Islamabad. The contract, a product of a competitive bidding process, was signed by Dr. Adeel Waqas, Principal of the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCASE) at NUST, and Brig. (R) Imran Masood Kashfi, Company Secretary of FSEL.
According to National University of Sciences and Technology, the project is a milestone in NUST's efforts to reduce its reliance on conventional energy sources, lower its carbon footprint, and promote environmentally responsible campus operations. The initiative also highlights the university's commitment to leveraging its own expertise, with USPCAS-E, NUST playing a pivotal role in the project's planning and execution.
Dr. Muhammad Zahid Latif, Rector of NUST, emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into institutional development during the contract signing ceremony. He remarked that the project aligns with the university's strategy to address contemporary energy challenges and expressed confidence that NUST will soon be fully solarised. Dr. Latif added that universities have a responsibility to lead by example in advancing sustainable practices and resource utilization, asserting NUST's ambition to play a leading role both in Pakistan and internationally.
The contract signing was attended by senior leadership from both NUST and FSEL, underscoring the collaborative effort in advancing Pakistan's energy landscape through renewable and clean energy initiatives.
