Orakzai’s Voter Registration Surpasses National Average

Orakzai: Voter registration in Orakzai has reached 56% of its projected 2025 population, surpassing the national voter registration ratio of 54% by two percentage points. According to Free and Fair Election Network, the data, revealed by the Election Commission of Pakistan, indicates that Orakzai has 247,667 registered voters, with a gender distribution of 55.2% male and 44.8% female voters.

The methodology for calculating the registration rates involves comparing the number of registered voters to the estimated 2025 population, which is based on the 2023 Digital Census. The estimates apply a 7.3% annual growth rate to Orakzai's base population of 387,561, resulting in a projected population of 446,210. Orakzai ranks 107th in population size nationally and shares a National Assembly seat with an adjacent district.

The district stands 45th in voter registration rate nationwide and 20th within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Two specific census rules contributed to Orakzai's higher registration rate: the exclusion of household members absent for over six months from enumeration at their home address, and the inclusion of those living elsewhere at their current location. This has resulted in a smaller population denominator compared to the voter roll, as many residents registered in Orakzai were counted elsewhere due to labor migration.

Despite the higher overall registration rate, a gender gap remains, with male voters outnumbering female voters by 25,589. This highlights the need for targeted voter registration campaigns for women in Orakzai ahead of future general elections.
