Karachi: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the urgent need for collective global action to combat climate change, describing it as a critical challenge for humanity. He made these remarks in a message marking World Environment Day, underscoring the immediate impact of climate change on lives worldwide.
According to a press release issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, Bhutto Zardari highlighted that phenomena such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves serve as stark reminders of the present dangers posed by climate change. He noted that for many families, climate change is a devastating reality resulting in the loss of homes, livelihoods, and lives.
Bhutto Zardari further stressed Pakistan's vulnerability to climate change impacts, despite its minimal contribution to global emissions. He called for climate justice, criticizing the disproportionate burden placed on nations least responsible for the crisis. He added that millions are suffering from the consequences of emissions primarily produced by wealthier countries.
In his message, Bhutto Zardari also paid homage to former leaders Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for their foresight in linking social justice with sustainable development and environmental stewardship. He reiterated the PPP's dedication to advancing climate resilience, promoting renewable energy, and conserving natural resources, urging a legacy of hope and sustainability for future generations.
