Quetta: Balochistan recorded a voter turnout of 30.3% in the 2024 Provincial Assembly elections, with 2.38 million votes cast out of a total 5.37 million registered voters. The province, known for its vast land area and sparse population, has consistently demonstrated low electoral engagement compared to other provinces in Pakistan.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, Balochistan's turnout rate has been among the lowest in the country across twelve election cycles, with the highest turnout recorded at 44.6% in 1970 and the lowest at 19.3% in 1977. The province's political landscape has been affected by historical conflict and security concerns, which, along with its geographical challenges, contribute to the lower voter turnout.

The gender gap in voter registration in Balochistan remains significant, with male voters comprising 56.1% and female voters 43.9% of the electorate. Male voter turnout stood at 39.5%, while female turnout was slightly higher at 43.5%, resulting in a gender turnout gap of 4.0 percentage points.

The election also saw 96,105 rejected ballots, accounting for 4% of the total votes polled. The rejection rate has been notably high in Balochistan, attributed to lower literacy rates and the administrative difficulties of conducting elections in remote areas. Despite these challenges, the registered electorate in Balochistan has grown significantly from under one million in 1970 to 5.4 million in 2024, marking the fastest proportional growth in the country.
