HEC Chairman Inaugurates Smart Classroom at Sindh Madressatul Islam University

Karachi: The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Chairman, Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, inaugurated a new smart classroom at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), pledging to resolve ongoing issues between the national and provincial higher education commissions. He announced the creation of a committee led by Dr. Tariq Rafi, Chairman of Sindh HEC, to address these concerns.

According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Dr. Akhtar emphasized that the curriculum set by HEC Pakistan serves as a guideline, encouraging universities to adapt it to their specific needs. He stated that teachers with extensive experience can refine subjects more effectively than external experts. Dr. Akhtar also highlighted the importance of ensuring that degrees from Pakistani universities are recognized both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Akhtar acknowledged the historical significance of SMIU as the alma mater of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and praised the efforts of SMIU's Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, for advancing the institution's quality of education. He expressed pride in visiting the university and commended the vice chancellor's contributions.

Dr. Akhtar also addressed the proliferation of PhDs and research papers, urging that research should have a tangible impact on society. He cautioned against research that lacks societal benefits.

Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, in his remarks, noted SMIU's 141-year legacy of providing quality education. He highlighted the expansion of the university's role since 2012 and the increase in student enrollment under his leadership. Dr. Sahrai underscored the importance of both national and provincial HECs and called for resolving duplications in their functions.

The ceremony concluded with Dr. Sahrai presenting Dr. Akhtar with a shield, an English translation of the biography of SMI founder Hassanally Effendi, and an Ajrak, a traditional Sindhi shawl. The event was attended by notable figures from various universities and the HEC. Dr. Akhtar also visited the Jinnah Museum at SMIU.
