LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized the importance of student societies that focus on character-building, highlighting their role in nurturing moral values alongside academic learning. Addressing an oath-taking ceremony for the Character Building Society (CBS) at the Institute of Zoology, Dr. Ali underscored the role of such societies in developing honesty, discipline, and responsibility among students.
According to University of the Punjab, the event took place at the Zoological Museum on the New Campus, attended by faculty members, a large number of students, and notable figures such as Director Institute of Zoology Prof Dr Nabila Roohi and DSA Director Dr Shahzeb Khan. Dr. Ali stated that education should encompass more than knowledge acquisition, emphasizing the importance of leadership qualities, teamwork, and respect for others. He advocated for universities to support character-building societies to produce responsible and principled citizens.
The Vice Chancellor administered the oath to new members who pledged to uphold the values of CBS, and a poster competition was held to encourage student creativity on social and ethical topics. Winners were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Prof Dr Nabila Roohi highlighted that the society aims to instill strong moral values and leadership skills, with plans for seminars, campaigns, and outreach programs throughout the academic year. The CBS initiative, launched by the National Accountability Bureau across Pakistan, promotes integrity, transparency, and active citizenship among youth.
