ISLAMABAD: During the 26th session of the National Assembly, held from March 30 to April 8, 2026, a notable lack of attendance was observed, with only 20 percent of the members attending all six sittings. The session highlighted a trend of absenteeism among assembly members, with 15 percent of the members not attending any of the sittings.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, the highest attendance was recorded during the fourth sitting, with 62 percent of the current membership, or 208 members, present. In contrast, the third sitting had the lowest attendance, with only 40 percent of members, or 134 members, in attendance. The report shows that 80 percent of the members missed at least one sitting during the session.
Among cabinet members, three federal ministers and one state minister were present at all sittings. However, six ministers, including five federal ministers and one minister of state, did not attend any sitting. The report noted the absence of the Prime Minister throughout the session, while the Leader of the Opposition attended three sittings.
The report further indicated that of the 19 federal ministers scheduled to respond during Question Hour, only four were present when required to answer questions. Additionally, of the five ministers required to respond to Calling Attention Notices, four attended one sitting.
