PCB Fines Three Players for Code of Conduct Violations in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Matches

Lahore: Three players participating in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 have been fined by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for separate breaches of the Code of Conduct during recent matches. The penalties, ranging from 35% to 80% of match fees, address incidents of dissent, inappropriate comments, and abusive language.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, Bahawalpur Region’s Mohammad Sheharyar was fined 35% of his match fee for violating Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct, which prohibits showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. The incident occurred during his team’s match against Azad Jammu and Kashmir Region at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, where Sheharyar delayed leaving the crease and displayed frustration after being given out caught behind. The charge was reported by on-field umpires Saqib Khan and Farooq Ali Khan. Sheharyar accepted the charge, eliminating the need for a formal hearing, and the sanction was imposed by match referee Nadeem Arshad.

In a separate incident, Rawalpindi Region’s Jahandad Khan received a 75% match fee fine for a Level 2 violation of Article 2.13, which addresses personal abuse. During the fourth day of the match against Multan Region at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Jahandad was found to have verbally abused the batters in the 123rd over of Multan’s innings. The on-field umpires, Imtiaz Iqbal and Kashif Sohail, imposed the charge, and Jahandad’s admission of guilt led to the immediate sanction by match referee Mohammad Javed.

Lahore Region Blues’ Imran Butt was penalized with an 80% fine for breaching Articles 2.7 and 2.8 of the Code of Conduct. The first article prohibits public criticism or inappropriate comments regarding match incidents or officials, while the second addresses showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. Imran was reported for expressing dissent after being given out caught in the 13th over of his team’s second innings against Dera Murad Jamali Region at Saeed Sports City Bedian in Lahore. Additionally, he made inappropriate comments toward the umpire while leaving the field. The charge was imposed by on-field umpires Shozab Raza and Ghulam Sarwar, and the sanctions were applied by match referee Kamran Chaudary following Imran’s acceptance of the charges.
