Rawalkot: The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Poonch Rawalkot recently hosted a seminar titled “Problems of Obesity in Humans and Their Solution”, focusing on the crucial roles of diet and lifestyle in tackling obesity. The event featured discussions led by experts on the causes, consequences, and preventive strategies associated with obesity.

According to University of Poonch Rawalkot, The seminar emphasized the importance of adopting a balanced diet and indigenous foods to mitigate the risks associated with obesity. Speakers at the event included Professor Dr. Nasir Rahim, Dean of Agriculture, and Professor Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Chairman of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. They were joined by Dr. Shagufta Haroon and Dr. Ayesha Khan, who highlighted obesity as a significant global health issue affecting both developed and developing nations. The seminar detailed how modern lifestyle choices, including the consumption of high-calorie, low-nutrient foods and sugary beverages, contribute to the obesity epidemic.

The experts pointed out that obesity not only serves as a disease in itself but also triggers various other health problems. Effective strategies to combat obesity include promoting physical activity, reducing screen time, and encouraging the consumption of home-milled flour and other native food products. The discussions also covered the importance of introducing healthy lifestyle habits from childhood and integrating nutrition education into school curriculums to prevent obesity from an early age.

In a poignant remark, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain stressed the preventative role of nutritionists compared to the reactive approach of medical practitioners, noting that, “A doctor cures a disease while a nutritionist prevents a person from getting sick.” This underscored the value of continuous public education on balanced diets and healthy living practices.
