Lahore, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, has voiced strong criticism against the International Monetary Fund (IMF), accusing its representatives of dictating terms to Pakistan’s government as if they were viceroys. He expressed these views on the social media platform X, highlighting the stringent conditions of the IMF’s latest bailout package, which includes an 18 percent sales tax on all items, including medicines.
According to Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Rehman’s critique extends beyond economic policies to international issues, condemning the recent actions of Israel in Palestinian territories, particularly in Rafah. He described these actions as brutal and called out the international community, including the United Nations and Muslim leaders, for their silence and inaction.
Rehman also outlined a comprehensive national agenda developed in recent consultations with Jamaat-e-Islami’s Majlis Shura. This agenda includes the supremacy of the constitution and law, restoration of democracy, economic stability, completion of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, protection of women’s rights, and improvements in education, industry, and agriculture. Furthermore, it emphasizes opposing restrictions on freedom of the press and social media. This national movement is set to commence after Eid.
