Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani Reflects on Youm-e-Takbeer and Pakistan’s Nuclear Legacy

Islamabad, Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani addressed the nation today on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, marking the 26th anniversary of Pakistan’s entry into the ranks of nuclear powers. The day commemorates Pakistan’s successful nuclear tests on May 28, 1998, underscoring the nation’s technological prowess and strategic deterrence capabilities.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, in his message, Gillani highlighted the journey of Pakistan’s nuclear development, acknowledging the contributions of scientists, engineers, and political leaders who played pivotal roles. He paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for their foresight and leadership, which were crucial in the nation’s nuclear tests conducted under the government of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Gillani emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to being a responsible nuclear state, adhering to international standards and implementing strict safety measures to secure its nuclear assets. He reiterated the country’s policy of Credible Minimum Deterrence, aimed at maintaining regional peace and stability.

On this significant day, the Acting President renewed Pakistan’s pledge to advance its defense capabilities through technological and economic development, aiming for a peaceful and stable world.
