Karachi, In a statement released by the Pasban Democratic Party, Chief Organizer Tariq Chandiwala criticized the government for the ongoing load shedding during the current extreme heat conditions, emphasizing the risk of heatstroke and other severe impacts on public health and safety.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Tariq Chandiwala described the load shedding as evidence of government mismanagement despite sufficient power generation capacity, including hydropower, available in the country. He outlined several demands to mitigate the effects of the heat wave, including the suspension of load shedding for the next ten days, uninterrupted water supply, and proactive measures by hospitals to manage heatstroke cases.
Chandiwala also called for a three-week closure of educational institutions with a shift to online classes, and a one-month work-from-home directive for both public and private sectors where possible. Furthermore, he urged the Municipal Corporation to address the increased risk of stray dog bites during the heat wave and for electricity supply companies to voluntarily suspend load shedding for 100 days to save lives, citing the deadly heatstroke incident in Karachi in 2015 as a grim reminder of the potential consequences. The statement also highlighted the urgent need for the Disaster Management Cell to prepare for potential flood risks due to rapidly melting glaciers.
