New York, In an unprecedented expansion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, 20 teams will compete over four weeks in what is slated to be the largest edition of the tournament to date. Hosted by the United States and West Indies, the event will captivate fans with 55 matches, featuring a blend of perennial powerhouses and emerging cricket nations.
According to International Cricket Council, the tournament’s hosts, the West Indies and the USA, automatically qualify, with the USA making its debut appearance. The West Indies, looking to capitalize on their rich T20 history, will host the final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, a repeat of their 2010 hosting duties.
The qualification process saw the top eight teams from the 2022 World Cup automatically secure their spots. This group includes reigning champions England, who clinched their second title in Australia, along with other top performers like India, New Zealand, Australia, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan and Bangladesh earned their places through high rankings in the T20I team standings.
The final eight spots were fiercely contested through regional qualifiers, with teams like Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Uganda, and Namibia advancing through their respective tournaments to secure a berth at the World Cup.
