Rawalkot, In a significant statement during a conference at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffarabad, Professor Dr. Muhammad Zakaria Zakir, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Poonch, emphasized the necessity of investing in education to properly utilize natural resources for economic stability. He highlighted that mere possession of mineral resources does not guarantee national prosperity without adequate human capital development.
According to University of Poonch Rawalakot, Dr. Zakir pointed out that countries rich in mineral resources, like those in Africa, remain economically backward due to insufficient investment in education and human resource development. He argued that it is crucial to prepare the human mind to exploit these resources effectively. Dr. Zakir advocated for a “Skilled Best Knowledge Economy” to develop local manpower capable of utilizing mineral and other natural resources.
The conference also discussed the broader role of universities in the Azad region, stressing the importance of these institutions establishing a global identity in a world that has transformed into a global village. Dr. Zakir urged universities in Azad Kashmir to adapt to this global context, changing their educational models to contribute internationally.
Prominent figures such as Chairman Higher Education Commission Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and Vice Chancellor of AJK University Dr. Kaleem Abbasi also spoke at the event, supporting Dr. Zakir’s views on leveraging education for resource management and economic development.
