Haripur, In a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of civic processes, the University of Haripur, along with CPDI, Indoveland, Journal, and IRIS, hosted a comprehensive seminar on Local Government at the TMA Hall Haripur. The seminar sought to educate participants about the fundamental structure, roles, and operational methodologies of local governance systems.
According to The University of Haripur, the event saw active participation from fifty University of Haripur students, engaging them in a multifaceted learning experience. The seminar was methodically divided into three distinct parts, each focusing on different aspects of local governance. Initially, students were introduced to the election procedures for local representatives and the formation of village councils. Subsequent sessions delved into the responsibilities assigned to these elected officials and detailed the operational dynamics of local governments.
A unique feature of the seminar was its practical component, where actual functioning of the local government was showcased through a mock council meeting. This session, which included elected representatives from the Tehsil Council Haripur, provided students a hands-on experience in organizing and participating in a council meeting dedicated to addressing communal issues. The exercise facilitated direct interaction between students and local officials, fostering a conducive environment for problem-solving and deliberation.
Mr. Riaz Mohammad, Registrar of the University of Haripur, lauded the efforts of Aziz Ahmed, the seminar’s organizer and Project Coordinator at CPDI, for successfully conducting the informative session. Mohammad also affirmed the university’s commitment to hosting similar programs in the future, emphasizing their importance in broadening the educational horizons of its students.
This seminar represents a significant stride towards empowering students with practical knowledge and skills in local governance, aligning with the University of Haripur’s mission to offer educational experiences that extend beyond traditional academic boundaries.
