Lahore, Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood emphasized the importance of advancing Islamic banking in Pakistan. He made these remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day research week organized by Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce. The event saw the participation of notable academics, banking professionals, and a significant number of students.
According to University of the Punjab, Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood highlighted the potential of Hailey College of Commerce graduates in making a mark in the market and praised the event’s role in transforming ideas into reality. He expressed his belief that such initiatives could promote business in the country in line with Islamic principles. Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Vice Chancellor of Baba Gurunanak University, noted the increasing student enrollment at Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce as a testament to the hard work and competence of its faculty.
Prof Dr. Mubbsher Munawar Khan, Dean Faculty of Commerce, emphasized the need for research that benefits society, advocating for practical business applications rather than merely increasing research quantity. Hasan Raza Khan, General Manager at National Bank of Pakistan, shared that the bank is moving in the right direction, with positive outcomes expected soon.
Muhammad Mustafa Mahmood from Saudi Arabia spoke about the importance of collaborative efforts for progress, highlighting education as a crucial tool. He suggested that student delegation exchanges could enhance international relations. Prof Dr. Hafiz Zafar Ahmed, Principal of Hailey College of Commerce, mentioned that the college not only imparts education but also equips students with practical skills. He pointed out that the college’s faculty are also serving in countries like Turkey and Cyprus.
The three-day research week, a first of its kind under the auspices of Hailey College of Commerce, includes two international conferences, thesis competitions, seminars, and other research activities, providing a platform for intellectual exchange and development in the field of commerce and Islamic banking.
