Karachi, A two-day Japan film festival, a collaboration between the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and the Japanese Consulate, recently concluded at Auditorium II in Karachi. The event was graced by numerous prominent personalities, including the renowned writer Anwar Maqsood, Consul General of Japan ODAGIRI TOSHIO, and President of Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah.
According to a news release by Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Consul General ODAGIRI TOSHIO expressed his gratitude towards Anwar Maqsood and the President of Arts Council for orchestrating the film festival. Highlighting the keen interest of Pakistanis in Japanese movies, he emphasized that such events present a golden opportunity for both nations to deepen their understanding of each other’s culture and language.
Anwar Maqsood, celebrated writer and humorist, shared his immense admiration for Japan and its cinematic contributions. Despite having a scheduled flight to Houston the following morning, he attended the festival out of his love for Japanese films, referring to the event as “a fresh breeze” in challenging times. Maqsood noted that he owns an extensive collection of Japanese movies and lauded the international acclaim these films have received, including the prestigious Oscar awards.
Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, underlined the rich cultural histories of both Pakistan and Japan. He credited Fatima Suriya Bajiya for her instrumental role in fostering strong ties between the two nations. Emphasizing the potential of cultural programs like the film festival in drawing the countries closer, Shah also mentioned Pakistan’s thriving trade relationship with Japan. He expressed his hope for an even stronger bond between the two countries in the future, advocating for the role of such activities in disseminating peace and augmenting the beauty of both nations. Gratefully, he acknowledged the Japanese Consul for selecting the Arts Council as the venue for such momentous occasions.
The film “Dad’s Lunch Box” was showcased on the festival’s inaugural day, garnering significant appreciation from the attendees.
