UVAS Photographer Wins 1st Position in SPCA’s Photography Competition

Lahore, The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Punjab (SPCA) held a prize distribution ceremony at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore (UVAS) for a photography competition aimed at promoting animal welfare awareness. The competition’s theme was “Every Life Matters,” encouraging photographers to capture the importance of animal welfare.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, UVAS Official Photographer Mr. Basharat Ali Khan won 1st position in the competition. Chief Executive Officer of Forward Solution Animal Health Company, Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan, presented a shield and certificate to Mr. Basharat Ali Khan to acknowledge his outstanding achievement.

The event showcased the SPCA’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about animal welfare and recognize individuals who contribute to this cause through their creative work. By winning the competition, Mr. Basharat Ali Khan has highlighted the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect.

University of Sindh Hosts Exhibition Showcasing Engineering Research Projects and Posters

Jamshoro, The Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University of Sindh organized an exhibition showcasing more than 25 research projects and posters by MPhil and PhD scholars. The event aimed to highlight innovative engineering solutions and foster academic-industry collaboration to address local industrial problems and social issues.

According to University of Sindh, the exhibition featured research projects and posters from MPhil Information Technology and Data Science and PhD Information Technology scholars. The participating scholars presented their work as part of their academic curriculum for the year 2023. The projects offered simple yet innovative engineering solutions to issues faced by local industries, demonstrating the potential for academic contributions to industrial development.

Experts from Sindh and Mehran Universities, including Dr. Badar Munir from the Department of Telecommunication at Mehran University, Dr. Mohsin Memon from the same university’s Software Engineering department, and Dr. Yasir Arafat and Dr. Gulshir Laghari from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Sindh, reviewed the projects and posters.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Lachmandas Dhumija, emphasized the need to promote technical education in the country. He expressed satisfaction with the quality and creativity of the research projects, noting that they presented practical solutions to industrial problems and addressed social issues through their posters.

In addition to the Dean, other notable attendees included Dr. Shahzad Ahmed Memon, Director of AHS Bukhari Post Graduate Center of Information and Communication Technology, along with other faculty members. During the ceremony, commemorative shields and certificates were awarded to scholars with the most successful projects and posters.

The exhibition illustrated the potential for engineering scholars to contribute to the development of local industries and highlighted the importance of academic-industry partnerships in fostering innovation and solving real-world problems.

Dow University and NICVD Collaborate to Launch Health Professional Education Program

Karachi, Dow Institute of Health Professional Education at Dow University of Health Sciences has partnered with the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) to offer a certificate training course in Health Professions Education. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the boardroom of the Vice Chancellor of Dow University. The certificate course is set to commence in August this year.

According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the MoU was signed by Dow University Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaq and NICVD Executive Director Prof. Tahir Saghir, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Nazli Hussain, and several other distinguished guests in attendance. The collaboration aims to provide health professionals with enhanced teaching competencies and improved education standards in healthcare.

Prof. Mohammad Saeed Quraishy highlighted the significance of the Health Professional Education Certificate course, noting that it is now a requirement by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM and DC). He mentioned that the course is designed to empower medical faculty as teachers and to improve the quality of education in the healthcare sector.

Executive Director of NICVD Prof. Tahir Saghir expressed appreciation for the collaboration with Dow Institute of Health Professional Education, acknowledging its excellent reputation in the region. Dr. Farhan Saeed Vakani, Director of Dow Institute of Health Professionals Education, announced the initiation of work for the first batch of the certificate course, consisting of 25 health professionals from NICVD.

This partnership between Dow University and NICVD represents a significant step towards enhancing healthcare education and providing a platform for medical faculty to develop their teaching skills, ultimately leading to improved healthcare services in the region.

UVAS Observes World Veterinary Day with Various Activities

Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore celebrated World Veterinary Day in collaboration with Forward Solution, UM Enterprises, and JW Nutrition with a series of events at its City Campus. The activities aimed to create awareness about animal welfare and highlight the essential role of veterinarians in public health and community wellbeing.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the day featured a walk, a seminar, a poster competition, and a free medical treatment camp. The theme for World Veterinary Day was “Veterinarians Are Essential Health Workers.” These events emphasized the contributions veterinarians make to public health, food safety, and food security.

The Chief Executive Officer of Forward Solution Animal Health Company, Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. He joined UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) to lead the walk, which started from in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office and concluded at the main lawn. The walk saw participation from UVAS faculty, students, and industry representatives from the public and private sectors.

The seminar addressed the importance of veterinarians and their role in animal health, welfare, and treatment. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus spoke about the significant role veterinarians play in safeguarding public health, ensuring food safety, and promoting environmental sustainability. He highlighted the work of the Punjab livestock department and veterinarians who provide treatment services at the doorsteps of livestock farmers.

Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan emphasized that veterinarians not only treat animals but also ensure food safety and food security. He suggested the need to focus on local breeds to enhance milk and meat production in Pakistan, as these are fundamental components of the national diet.

Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani discussed the importance of government support for livestock policy and the collaboration between academia and industry to advance the livestock sector. Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani announced the results of the poster competition, with Ms. Izza winning 1st place, Taheer Ahmad Babar taking 2nd, and Faisal Ayub in 3rd. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus presented a shield to Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan and distributed cash prizes to the poster competition winners.

Additionally, the UVAS Department of Veterinary Medicine organized a Veterinary Aid Outreach Camp at the Outdoor Hospital in collaboration with IVSA Pakistan and National UVAS. This camp provided free medical treatment to animals, further demonstrating the university’s commitment to animal welfare and public health.

Union Council Chairman in Rawalkot Calls for Government Accountability and Local Governance Reform

Rawalkot, Sardar Mehboob Afzal, Chairman of Union Council Rahara in Rawalkot, has publicly denounced the government’s handling of local government funding and called for significant reforms to restore authority and financial autonomy to local bodies.

According to University of Poonch Rawalakot, Chairman Afzal criticized the announcement of funds for local governments by the central government as unauthorized and inadequate. He insisted that funds should be released and powers restored under Article 90, which he argues is crucial for effective local governance. Afzal announced plans for a major protest on April 30 to demand these changes, emphasizing the need for local representatives to have a clearer understanding and control over their responsibilities and resources. He compared the current situation to entrusting a non-professional with critical tasks, highlighting the incompetence and corruption he perceives in the current system. The planned protest aims to correct the political direction after local elections and redefine the parameters of effective political engagement at the local level.

German Professor Addresses Cultural Change Seminar at University of Poonch Rawalakot

Rawalkot, German professor Peter Joseph visited the University of Poonch Rawalakot and delivered a speech at a seminar hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture. In his address, Professor Joseph discussed the various factors that drive cultural change in nations, countries, and societies. He highlighted the impact of migration, trade, tourism, media, education, and intellectual trends on the evolution of cultures in the modern era.

According to University of Poonch Rawalakot, Professor Joseph shared his extensive and intriguing experiences with the students and faculty members, offering guidance to those interested in pursuing higher education in European countries, including advice on obtaining scholarships. He also spoke about the cultural impact of developed countries on developing nations and addressed the notion of a “clash of civilizations.”

Professor Joseph noted that cultural change is a complex and ongoing process that cannot be entirely stopped. However, he emphasized that the direction of a nation’s culture can be shaped by a combination of factors. He also explained the political, social, and economic effects on culture, citing changes in political leadership, policies, and governance structures as influential. Additionally, migration, trade, tourism, and media play significant roles in shaping cultural identities.

The seminar was organized under the patronage of Dean Faculty Professor Dr. Nasir Rahim, with Deputy Director of Student Affairs and Assistant Professor Dr. Gul Raina Ejaz as the coordinator. Several faculty members, including Dr. Gul Lala, Dr. Saeqa Bashir, Dr. Aqeela Shaheen, and Dr. Mohammad Tariq Khan, attended the event, along with a large number of students.

Professor Joseph’s insights into cultural change were well-received by the students, who found the seminar beneficial and stated that it opened new avenues for awareness and understanding of cultural dynamics.
