As a member, I conducted an accreditation visit of Agronomy, Entomology, Food Science and Technology, Horticulture, and PBG degree programs.

on June 14, 2023, Dr. Shah Masood Khan received the team and guided up to the VC office where the relevant department chairman and QEC team welcome NAEAC AIC’s team. After meeting with vc Prof. Dr. Shafiq ur Rahman, the team moved to Iqbal Hall where Dean Prof. Abid Farid briefed the AIC’s in detail about the accomplished of the university of Haripur, later Dr. Abadul Ghaffar Secretary NAEAC shared the previous AIC recommendations, and then AIC moved to relevant departments where detailed presentations and discussions were held. In the exit meeting of the visit, the program evaluators shared their observations with Pro. VC Dr. Abid Farid and appreciate the university management.

Workshop in AFPGMI and College of Nursing

Rawalpindi, June 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): As part of Continuing Professional Development, Students at AFPGMI and the College of Nursing AFPGMI, have regularly attended various workshops. Department of Health Professions Education, NUMS in collaboration with Research and Development Department Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI), Rawalpindi, conducted following workshops at AFPGMI Rawalpindi: –

One-day workshop on Research Methodology for students of MSc HCA, AFPGMI on 3rd May 2023.

One-day workshop on SPSS for students of MSc HCA, AFPGMI on 15th May 2023.

One-day workshop on Research Methodology for students of BS (AHS) MLT, MIT, CP, AFPGMI on 23rd May 2023

Two-day workshop on Sample Size and SPSS for students of MSN on 24th and 25th May 2023 at College of Nursing, AFPGMI.

One of the main advantages of a workshop on research methodology is the chance for attendees to speak with subject-matter specialists and ask them questions that can help them better grasp the subject. The workshop is an experiential learning opportunity that falls somewhere between a class and a conference. Participants can practice new skills as they learn them, making it possible to make mistakes in a low-risk setting and immediately fix them.

The facilitators for the above workshops were Dr. Fozia Fatima (PhD-Education) and Dr. Nadia Shabnam (PhD-Statistics). Both faculty members of the Department of Health Professions Education. NUMS are highly professional and competent instructors. They have a strong grip on the discipline of research methodology in both quantitative and qualitative domains. At the conclusion of the workshops, Brigadier Tashfeen Bin Nazeer (Director of Training, AFPGMI) gave certificates and shields to both facilitators and expressed his gratitude for their participation and candor.

Non-communicable Diseases Awareness Symposium: Pathway to Prevention

Rawalpindi, June 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): According to World Health Organization, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), cancers, diabetes, etc. are responsible for 41 million deaths annually,74% of all fatalities globally. The high prevalence of risk factors associated with NCDs includes unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, tobacco use, hazardous alcohol consumption, air pollution, as well as genetic factors. In Pakistan, NCDs are estimated to account for 50% of total deaths, between ages 30 and 70 years from the four main NCDs is 21% in Pakistan.

Keeping in view the importance of this issue, the department of Biological Sciences has taken the initiative to organize a symposium entitled as “Non-communicable Diseases Awareness Symposium: Pathway to Prevention” on 4th May 2023, with the aim to understand in detail the lifestyle, environmental and genetic risk factors as well as associated complications of NCDs. This event comprised of various activities including lectures by eminent physicians and scientists and awareness videos prepared by students to highlight the significance of NCDs.

The event started with the recitation of the wholly Quran, followed up by the welcome note from the Head of Department. Dr. Aamir Shehzad, Director ACAD Clinical, graced this event as a chief guest. First speaker Lt. Col. Dr. Yasir Javed, who is currently working as the Head of Department of Preventive Cardiology at Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi had enlightened the participants on the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases. The second panellist was renowned scientist Prof. Dr. Syed Javaid Khursheed, who is an independent think tank professional and Ex Secretory Science Communication Advisory Board OIC COMSTECH. Prof. Khursheed worked for Pakistan’s Atomic Energy Commission for around 40 years in a variety of capacities. His talk mainly focused on cancer awareness, prevention, management and the current available cancer treatment facilities in Pakistan.

The next guest speaker was Prof. Dr. Jamal Zafar, senior medical specialist and a renowned Dialectologist. He is the Ex-Chairman of Department of Medicine in Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, PIMS, Islamabad and currently the CEO of Hanif Medical Complex, Rawalpindi. Prof Dr. Jamal Zafar shared with the participant the information related to Diabetes and related complications. The event also includes a video prepared by student on NCD awareness. At the end of the event, the chief guest presented the Souvenirs to the guest speakers and certificates of appreciation to the organizers Dr. Aysha Karim Kiani, Dr. Deeba Amraiz, Dr. Rida Fatima Saeed, Dr. Uzma Azeem Awan and the facilitators. The event was concluded by the chief guest remarks, who appreciated the success of this well-organized event.
