CPR Awareness Session Conducted at DHQ Hospital, Badin

Karachi, June 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): A team from Indus Hospital and Health Network, Karachi Campus, successfully conducted a CPR Awareness Session at District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital Badin from May 23 – 27, 2023. The five-day session ended on Saturday, marking the successful completion of the CPR certification session, which certified over 250 Indus Badin employees.

Under the guidance and support of Aakash Kumar and Maha Shahid, esteemed members of the Karachi Indus team, participants received expert training and guidance throughout the certification sessions. The sessions were well-received by the hospital staff, who appreciated the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills. The certification sessions aimed to equip employees with the basic life-saving skills necessary to respond to emergencies.

CPR is a simple yet effective technique to save lives in emergencies such as heart attacks, drowning, or choking. COVID-19 ACTIV 2d Clinical Trial at IHHN to Be Initiated

Karachi, June 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) is initiating another COVID-19 drug trial – ACTIV-2d Clinical Drug, for individuals testing positive for this virus. ACTIV-2d is a Shionogi and Co. Ltd (Japan) sponsored study based on international ethical guidelines with a focus on patient safety. It aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a novel investigational oral antiviral therapy called S-217622 in adults with early COVID-19 symptoms.

Potential participants will undergo screening for COVID-19 via the antibody test or go through a PCR swab to check if they are infected. They must be over 18 years of age, have no major or uncontrolled health issues, and not pregnant, lactating, or planning to conceive until 6 months, to become part of the trial. Once eligible participants consent to become part of the trial, they will be enrolled and given three tablets on day one and one tablet daily for a further four days. This may be the anti-viral drug or a placebo, which neither the participant nor the trial staff will know as per the trial protocol.

The participant will remain part of the trial for 6 months. During this period, participants will be asked to fill out an electronic diary and keep a record of any reactions after each tablet. Participants will be compensated for their time and travel.

There are over 250 Activ-2D trial sites worldwide. IQVIA is managing sites in Pakistan and The Indus Hospital, Korangi, Karachi site has recently initiated this trial. Information collected via the trial will help researchers in advancing medical knowledge and potentially develop effective and affordable treatment options for mild to moderate COVID-19 in Pakistan. Indus College of Nursing and Midwifery Celebrates International Nursing Day 2023

Karachi, June 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Indus College of Nursing and Midwifery, together with Indus Nursing Service, came together to commemorate International Nursing Day (IND) throughout the month of May with various engaging games, activities and celebrations. This year’s celebration revolved around the theme “Our Nurses. Our Future,” emphasizing the vision for nursing in the coming years to tackle global health challenges and enhance healthcare worldwide.

The grand event took place on May 25, 2023. Notable attendees at the event included Dr. Zafar Zaidi, the CEO of IHHN and the Dean of the Indus University of Health Sciences (IUHS); Dr. Ghina Shamsi, the Associate Dean of IUHS; Ms. Yasmin Amersi, the first Ph.D. nurse; Ms. Alia Nasir, the Principal and Associate Professor of Hamdard University; Dr. Farida Amin, the Director of Community Health; and Dr. Shafaq Sultana, a medical educationist.

The program commenced with a ceremony where students pledged their commitment to the nursing profession. A compilation video showcasing a quiz competition was also presented, adding an interactive element to the celebration. Later, a panel discussion took place, providing a platform for attendees to exchange ideas and insights.

Recognizing exceptional performance, appreciation certificates were awarded to outstanding staff nurses, faculties, and students. This gesture aimed to acknowledge the significant contributions made by these individuals in the field of nursing and to inspire others to strive for excellence.

Islamabad, June 08, 2023 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 8 out of 10 Pakistanis believe it is important to solve the Kashmir issue first in order to establish peace with India.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country, was asked the question “Do you believe it is important to solve the Kashmir issue first in order to establish peace with India?” In response, 76% said important to solve Kashmir issue before establishing peace with India, 20% said peace can be established even without solving Kashmir issue, and 4% said that they did not know or did not respond.

IoBM and Wavetec Forge Strategic Partnership to Enhance Academia-Industry Linkages

Karachi, June 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): IoBM and Wavetec signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, June 08, 2023, at IoBM in an attempt to strengthen academia-industry linkages. The signatories of this MoU were Dr. Tariq Soomro, Acting Rector representing IoBM, and Mr. Arshad Alam, Head of Training and Development representing Wavetec. IoBM and Wavetec believe that their collaboration will benefit the students at IoBM by enhancing their skills and knowledge.
