Australia retain top position in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings after annual update

Dubai, May 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): Australia have retained their position at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings following the annual update that drops results from the 2019-20 season and reflects all matches completed since May 2020. Australia are two rating points clear of Pakistan at 118 points after the update, which weights matches completed prior to May 2022 at 50 per cent and subsequent matches at 100 per cent. Pakistan, who had grabbed the number one position briefly on 5 May before losing the final ODI of their five-match home series to New Zealand and slipping back behind Australia, are on 116 points, one more than India.

Pakistan would have remained at the top of the ODI rankings even after the annual update had they completed a 5-0 sweep in the series against New Zealand. An interesting battle at the top of the rankings is imminent in the year of the World Cup as only three points separate Australia, Pakistan and India, who are comfortably ahead of the others in the 20-team table. The matches dropping out of the rankings include the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019. England and New Zealand, who played an epic final at Lord’s four years ago, have both lost points in the annual update.

New Zealand are in fourth position but 11 points behind India at 104 after losing four points over the cycle. England, who will defend their World Cup title in India this year, have lost 10 points and are in fifth position with 101 points. South Africa and Bangladesh retain sixth and seventh positions, respectively, while Afghanistan have overtaken former World Champions Sri Lanka and the West Indies to grab eighth position. The top eight are the teams to have qualified directly for this year’s World Cup. The media release issued after the annual updates to the men’s Test and T20I rankings carried out last week, which saw India overtake Australia to grab top position in Tests and consolidate their No. 1 position in T20Is, is available here.

The women’s annual team ranking updates will be carried out in the beginning of October.

Exerting political pressure on the US is crucial for Dr. Aafia’s release: Lawyers

Islamabad, May 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): The release of Dr. Aafia is as much a political battle as it is a legal battle. Apart from seeking legal avenues, the Government of Pakistan must do its part by creating political pressure on the US to secure Dr. Aafia’s release. For this, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Court must demonstrate the will and undertake all necessary measures to bring her back, urged speakers during a session on “Unending Woes of the US War of Terror: The Case of Pakistani Prisoner Aafia Siddiqui” held at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS).

The session was held with Clive Stafford Smith, British-American lawyer for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, her sister Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, and Imran Shafiq Advocate, her lawyer in Pakistan. Dr. Aafia has an iconic status in Pakistan, and, at the same time, she is a symbol of unending misery thanks to the post-9/11 US panic and the War on Terror, said Clive who has been representing her case and has also been able to get over 80 other prisoners released from Guantanamo Bay providing them with pro-bono legal aid.

He said that the counts of attempted murder, assaults, and criminal charges on her and information about her being extremist are all unfounded. Deprived of her liberty, she has been a traumatized victim of US brutality, unlawful imprisonment, and extreme injustice. According to the intelligence data, 98.5 per cent of 780 detainees in Guantanamo Bay have been subject to unlawful imprisonment wherein 764 out of 780 prisoners pose no threat to the US.

He said that there are a lot of difficulties and challenges in bringing Dr. Aafia back legally but, despite that, there are also several legal avenues that can be sought after including the right to be released on compassionate grounds, litigation, pardon, etc. Another significant avenue for this pursuit is the political pressure and influence on the part of Pakistan. In this case, a big question is what’s Pakistan going to offer or put forward for her. The release of Dr. Aafia is primarily Pakistan’s cause, but the will to get her back to Pakistan has been lacking in successive governments, said Imran Shafique Advocate. This scanty amount of willingness and sincerity demonstrated over time in pursuit of her release has only exploited the issue, as no consistent and significant official efforts have been done and her case is still pending in Islamabad High Court for no reason.

The release of Dr. Aafia is as much a political battle as it is a legal battle, he asserted. There are several ways that the Government of Pakistan can opt for, including repatriation, and exchange agreements like prisoner transfer agreements. But no government in its official capacity has ever utilized them. The speakers called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Pakistan to not delay in taking the required action in pursuit of her release. In this case, the supervisory role of the court is very important as it can take action against elements that resist her release and expedite the process. Along with this, pressure from the public and intelligentsia, media role, and diplomatic efforts also can exert a considerable influence.

The Pakistan People’s Party is in principle happy to arrest a politician and not in favour of banning any political party, but PTI has to decide whether it wants to be a political party or a terrorist organization: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

Karachi, May 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has clarified that his party is in principle happy for the arrest of a politician and is not in favor of banning any political party, but PTI It has to be decided whether it wants to run as a political party or a terrorist organization. He further said that we are in favor of holding the general elections on time and are hopeful of finding a political solution to the current situation in the country.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced to celebrate the historic victory of Pakistan People’s Party in the local elections of Sindh on May 13 in Karachi and has emphasized on the Jayalas that they have to work hard to serve the people and prove that they are the ones. are true representatives of

Addressing a press conference at Media Cell Bilawal House Karachi, the PPP Chairman said that the last two days are dark days in the history of Pakistan. He said that in response to Imran Khan’s eight-day remand, such attacks were carried out by PTI which has no precedent in history. He said that as far as I remember, one attack on GHQ was carried out by the outlawed TTP and now by the PTI, an outlawed BLA attack on Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s house in Balochistan. And now the second attack has been made by PTI on Jinnah House in Lahore.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that we do not celebrate anyone’s arrest or distribute sweets, because when a politician is arrested, the entire politics is affected. He said that the allegations of corruption against Imran Khan are serious. 190 million pounds was Pakistan’s money, money of the people of Sindh, which should have been returned to the people, but Imran Khan forced approval from the cabinet for the Qadir Trust. He said that Khan sahib deceived his cabinet in the matter of transferring money from Britain. I challenge all members of the then cabinet of PTI to refute these allegations.

The PPP chairman said that his party’s stand from the beginning was that NAB should be closed, but PTI has always defended NAB. He pointed out that NAB was also a part of the Democratic Charter, but Imran Khan had declared it a dead end at that time. He further said that as much as Pakistan People’s Party has opposed NAB, PTI has been supporting NAB. NAB reforms were the demand of all of us but Imran Khan opposed NAB reforms and accused us of NRO, but now Imran Khan is the first politician to benefit from NAB amendments introduced by Pakistan People’s Party.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that it should have happened that if Imran Khan was arrested, his party would have said how brave our leader is, but everyone saw his reaction, if PTI wanted to remain a political party, it would have called for a peaceful protest and political Limited to reactions. He said that our leader was hanged but we did not attack the GHQ or any corps commander’s house, the workers of Pakistan People’s Party burnt themselves but did not allow Pakistan to be harmed. He further said that if PTI decides to launch an armed rebellion against the state, there will definitely be situations where we will have to ban such parties.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that it is the responsibility of the state, government and institutions that PTI should act according to the law and constitution of Pakistan so that no political party, group or organization would think of breaking the law of Pakistan to such an extent. He said that PTI also advises that those responsible for the vandalism will have to answer for it, but they should not do more damage. He said that it is important that there is no judicial or other solution to the current political crisis but a political solution, and at a time when the establishment wants to remain neutral, this is the best opportunity for all political parties to stay in the political sphere and work. It has to be done otherwise what happened in the past may happen again.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while thanking the people for giving historic victory to the Pakistan People’s Party in the local body elections in Sindh, said that the politics of hatred and division have been buried forever. He said that during the recent local body elections, my slogan was ‘Tira Na Mera Pakistan, but Pakistan of all of us, all of us in Sindh, all of us in Karachi, Hyderabad and Larkana. He said that his party has emerged as the single largest party in Karachi and Hyderabad as well. He said that a celebration will be celebrated in Karachi on May 13, people should participate fully.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Provincial Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, Political Secretary of PPP Chairman Jameel Soomro and Coordinator Mir Sohrab Marri were also present on this occasion.
