Chris McCloskey Joins Duck Creek as Chief Operating Officer

Hitachi Energy signs agreements with ENOWA and Saudi Electricity Company to design and develop the first phase of visionary NEOM region transmission system

Collaboration to accelerate the development of NEOM in Saudi Arabia with up to 9 gigawatts of power transmission capacity

Zurich, Switzerland, May 30, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader advancing a sustainable energy future for all, has signed agreements under the supervision and management of the Ministry of Energy with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and with ENOWA. The agreements include the supply of three high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems to end customer ENOWA, the utility company for NEOM in Northwest Saudi Arabia. Built with sustainability in mind, NEOM is among Saudi Arabia’s Giga-Projects1 reshaping the future of development. The three HVDC links will have a total power capacity of up to 9 gigawatts (GW).

The agreements include an order from ENOWA’s engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) partner, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awarded to Hitachi Energy and its consortium partner, Saudi Services for Electro Mechanical Works (SSEM), to provide one of the world’s first 3 GW, 525 kilovolt (kV) HVDC Light® transmission system connecting Oxagon, NEOM’s regional development, with the larger Yanbu area more than 650 kilometers away in Western Saudi Arabia.

Hitachi Energy’s scope of supply includes design, engineering, procurement of HVDC technology and commissioning of the HVDC Light converter stations. Whilst SSEM – a leading Saudi EPC specialized in power, water and industrial projects – will design and supply the AC equipment portion and perform the construction and the installation. The converter stations convert the power from AC to DC then back to AC for integration into the receiving grid. The converters will be sourced by and supplied to Saudi Electricity Company, who were contracted in 2022 by ENOWA to act as their EPCM to build this first HVDC system for NEOM.

Further to this, Hitachi Energy and ENOWA have signed an early works and capacity reservation agreement for two additional HVDC projects, each rated up to 3 GW. Under this agreement, both companies commit to having the resources and capacity necessary to implement these two HVDC systems. As part of a new scalable and modular regional network design that is targeted to seamlessly integrate future renewables and energy storage technologies in the NEOM Energy System, making it unique in terms of size and complexity. The co-operation will also explore opportunities to develop local competencies in the Kingdom, including ways to sustainably assemble the necessary HVDC Light components locally.

Rawalpindi, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): Applications are invited for the following posts under HEC funded project titled: “Community-based Solid Waste Management through Active and Effective Participation”. The candidates fulfilling the prescribed qualification, experience and other conditions may submit their CVs to the undersigned authority till 15th June, 2023.

1. Drivers and Helpers (Male) – 10 Vacancies

The project is looking for skilled and responsible drivers and helpers to support solid waste management operations. The selected candidates will receive a salary of PKR 25,000 per month. The duration of the position is four months, with the possibility of renewal or extension based on performance. Applicants must possess the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations. A valid driving license and prior experience in the relevant field are necessary. Strong commitment to road safety is a key requirement, and preference will be given to candidates residing in Bhara Kahu who have no criminal record.

2. Garbage Collectors – Workers (Male and Female) – 10 Vacancies

The project is also seeking male and female workers to serve as garbage collectors. The selected candidates will receive a salary of PKR 25,000 per month. Similar to the driver and helper positions, the duration is four months, with the possibility of renewal or extension based on performance. Basic reading, writing, and math skills are required, along with relevant field experience. A strong commitment to waste collection and cleanliness is essential. The project requires two male security guards to ensure the safety of the scrapyard. The selected candidates will receive a salary of PKR 25,000 per month. Basic reading, writing, and math skills are required, along with relevant field experience. A strong commitment to scrapyard safety is crucial. Preference will be given to candidates residing in Bhara Kahu who have no criminal record.

4. Enumerator (Male and Female) – 2 Vacancies

The project is looking for two enumerators, both male and female, to assist with data collection and research activities. The selected candidates will receive a salary of PKR 25,000 per month. The duration of the position is four months, with the possibility of renewal or extension based on performance. The ideal candidate should hold a PhD/M.Phil/MSc/BS degree or be enrolled in Sociology, Economics, Statistics, Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences, or Public Administration. Candidates enrolled in any discipline at the PhD/MPhil/MSc/BS/Intermediate level will also be considered. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, and preference will be given to candidates with prior working experience in research projects and publications. Residing in or nearby Bhara Kahu, the research project site area, is preferable.

PU PSC organizes seminar on Constitutional Golden Jubilee

Lahore, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) organized a seminar on ‘Golden Jubilee of Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution: Salient Features and its relevance to Current Issues’. On this occasion, former PU Dean and Chairman Department of History Director Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chawla, Director PSC Prof Dr Naumana Kiran, Associate Professor Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, faculty members and students from various departments were present. In his address, Dr Iqbal Chawla said Pakistan was a federation and nature of its constitution was Parliamentary. He talked about the Islamic provisions, fundamental rights and civil liberties as the features of the Constitution of Pakistan. He said that the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights to all Pakistani citizens, including the right of life, liberty, equality before law and freedom of speech.

He said that constitution establishes a clear separation of powers among the executive, legislative and judicial branches, however, in many instances; the judiciary has asserted its authority with the support of the establishment. He said that as a federating state, its constitution ensures the autonomy of federating units and it safeguards their rights. He said that it is necessary for the state to promote balance in distribution of powers between central and provincial governments. He said that today Pakistan is facing unprecedented socio-economic and politico-legal challenges. In his concluding remarks, he said that the judiciary has been a center of hope bringing the solutions to the problems. In her welcome Dr Naumana Kiran highlighted the relevance of the topic of the seminar with the contemporary Pakistan. She emphasized the significance of the constitution in the working of a stable state.

PU VC for strengthening research journals

Lahore, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood chaired first meeting of PU Journals Steering Committee at Al-Raazi Hall. On this occasion, Director ORIC / Chairman of the committee Prof Dr Shakil Ahmed, Secretary Dr Muhammad Rafiq and others were present. In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood highlighted the importance of research journals in university’s publication portfolio and hoped that this committee would address the issues faced by the journals’ editors and play a significant role to uplift the university’s research and publication portfolio.

He said that PU was publishing 43 journals in different academic disciplines. He said that the committee would act under the ORIC director and with an aim to strengthen the PU journals by addressing related issues through policy suggestions, and technological and training interventions. Dr Shakil briefed about the agenda items while secretary of the committee welcomed the distinguished committee members.
