National Games Torch for the 34th National Games 2023

Lahore, May 07, 2023 (PPI-OT): I am pleased to inform you that the National Games Torch for the 34th National Games 2023 was kindled at Quaid-e-Azam Mazar in Karachi during a colourful ceremony held on May 6th, 2023. It was a momentous occasion for all those who attended, and the beginning of a journey that will inspire and unite the nation.

The Torch was officially handed over to Mr. Babar Yousafzai and Mr. Durra Baloch of the Government of Balochistan by Mr. Muhammad Jahangir, Deputy Secretary General POA, signifying the start of the Torch Relay. Mr. Ahmed Ali Rajput, Secretary General of the Sindh Olympic Association, received the Torch from the Government of Balochistan and handed it over to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Sindh, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput. The Torch was then carried by Mr. Islahuddin Siddiqui, an Olympian Hockey player, and other international athletes at Quaid-e-Azam Mazar in accordance with the traditions of the Olympic Games.

The Torch was then transported to Iqra University, Karachi, where it was received by Dr. Wasim Qazi, Vice Chancellor/President of Iqra University, during a ceremony. Mr. Saeed Ghani, Minister for Information, Labour and Human Resources, Government of Sindh, was the Chief Guest at the event.

After the ceremony at Iqra University, the Torch was transported to Sir Syed University, Karachi, where it was handed over to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin, during another ceremony. Dr. Syed Saif Ur Rehman, Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, was the chief guest. The Torch will now be carried by the representative of the Government of Balochistan for onward carriage to Peshawar, where the KP Olympic Association will host the next leg of the Torch Relay.

We wish the KP Olympic Association all the best for the success of the event in Peshawar. The Torch Relay will create harmony and friendship among the provinces and the country, as people from different parts of Pakistan come together to celebrate the National Games. It will transmit a message of peace and friendship along its route and showcase Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, highlighting the importance of sports in promoting unity and harmony.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari hosts Acting Afghan Foreign Minister at Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Islamabad, May 07, 2023 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, hosted the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. The two sides held a candid and in-depth exchange on key issues of mutual concern, including peace and security, as well as trade and connectivity. The Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their desire to pursue continuous and practical engagement.

On peace and security, the Foreign Ministers emphasized the need for enhanced coordination to counter terrorism and deepening bilateral cooperation. Regarding bilateral and transit trade, the two sides stressed the importance of removing impediments to trade in order to advance the goal of enhanced regional economic integration and connectivity. The Foreign Minister of Pakistan also hosted a luncheon in honour of the visiting Afghan delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Acting Afghan Foreign Minister, and the Acting Afghan Minister for Commerce and Industry, is on a visit to Pakistan from 05-08 May 2023 accompanied with high-level delegations. Besides holding bilateral meetings, the Acting Afghan Foreign Minister also participated in the 5th China-Pakistan-Afghanistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue yesterday, with the participation of the Chinese Foreign Minister, where the three sides agreed to advance political engagement, counterterrorism cooperation and enhance trade, investments and connectivity under the trilateral framework.

SUCL Best Performance rewarded with Barrister Jan Muhammad Junejo Appreciation Award 2023

Larkana, May 07, 2023 (PPI-OT): Sindh University Campus Larkano Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Azhar Ali Shah expresses gratitude to Barrister Jan Muhammad Junejo Yadgaar Committee for the Award of Appreciation Shield 2023 on account of best performance of the Campus in the field of Higher Education. Chairman Barrister Jan Muhammad Junejo Yadgaar Committee Hon Mr Mazhar Ali Junejo, Mr Zahid Ali Junejo, Dr Badar Damrah and others awarded the shield to Prof Dr Azhar Ali Shah during the Education Seminar and award distribution ceremony held today at Pakistan Arts Council, Larkano.

During the appreciation award it has been highlighted that under the leadership of Dr Azhar Ali Shah and his team, within the very short span of time Sindh University Campus Larkano achieved academic excellence providing cohesive and conducive learning environment at the doorstep of people of Larkano and surrounding districts. Following achievements were specially mentioned during the event.

Achievement of aesthetically beautiful building with well-equipped class rooms, laboratories, library and other resources. Establishment of student societies for extracurricular and cocurricular activities as per national and international standards. Provision of free coaching service for the preparation of CSS/PMS competitive examinations.

Initiating the process for construction of more departments and faculties under the Provincial Annual Development Program. Also initiating the process for upgradation of Sindh University Campus Larkano as full fledge independent University of Larkano merging all public sector University Campuses in Larkano.
