Sports gala-2023 organized by SU’s IELL ends 

Jamshoro, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):A one day annual sports gala 2023 of the University of Sindh (SU) organized by the Institute of English Language and Literature (IELL) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports ended here on Friday.

A large number of students from BS-I to BS-IV English linguistics and literature participated in the sports gala. A prize distribution ceremony was held and trophies were given to players and winning teams, while the Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Meritorious Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro who graced the closing ceremony with his presence as chief guest, PVC SU campus Thatta Prof. Dr Rafique Ahmed Memon and Director IELL Prof. Dr Muhammad Khan Sangi were decorated with Sindhi ajrak and sport’s cap by the students and faculty members.

Former Director IELL Prof. Dr Tariq Hasan Umrani, Dr. Ellahi Bux Gopang, Dr. Abdul Hameed Panhwar, Dr. Ghulam Ali Buriro, Dr. Faiz Brohi, Dr. Ishrat Ranjhani, Dr. Abdul Fatah Soomro and other faculty members and as many as 3000 Englicans [English students] were present on the occasion.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro advised students to participate in sports activities so they can improve their physical fitness and academic performance.

He urged teachers to instill in students a sense of faith, discipline, respect, and unity so they could develop into productive members of society. He said that the sports activities were crucial for students because they needed physical movement to stay mentally healthy and pursued their education for the benefit of the nation.

“The students are the nation’s future; consequently, we must do everything in our power to ensure that they are well-equipped to handle the challenges posed by global development”, he said and added that because a healthy body and mind went hand in hand, the varsity had been holding sporting events to help students succeed in maintaining their health and do their best for the country after they were passed out.

Dr Kalhoro asked the students to take part in establishing communication between their teachers and parents. They should prevail upon their parents to coordinate their faculty. He claimed that the varsity’s alumni were leading the charge to support the younger students in their pursuit of academic and athletic endeavours.

“Due to the hundreds of its athletes who are well-known worldwide for their prowess and talents in sports like hockey, squash, and cricket, Pakistan is a recognized nation in the world of sports”, he said. He emphasized that only academic development of students wasn’t an answer to the problems the country was facing, but there was a dire need to engage them in extracurricular activities.

Dr Kalhoro said that sports inculcated enthusiasm, spirit and discipline among the students, adding that during the sports gala, the cricket, football, badminton and other games had been added to create sportsman spirit among the students. “I am elated to witness that the girls of the English institute are also playing cricket in a professional way. My best wishes are with all the players taking part in different games in today’s sports gala,” he said.

Dr Rafique Ahmed Memon said that the sports gala had become an important annual festivity of the IELL, adding that the young generation were the future leaders of the country and sports played an important role in grooming the personality. Dr Muhammad Khan Sangi said that the institute will organize more sports events so as to keep the students physically healthy and mentally fit.

MoU signed between Institute of Forest Sciences IUB and various forestry academic institutions in China 

Bahawalpur, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):According to the vision of Vice Chancellor Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob, Islamia University Bahawalpur is promoting links and cooperation with international universities. In this regard, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Institute of Forest Sciences Islamia University Bahawalpur, Yunnan Forestry Technology China and Tang China Education and Technology Limited China (4 years) for starting a split BS Forestry degree program.

According to the agreement, the students of the two universities will be exchanged to benefit from the modern educational and research facilities between the two institutions. Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jameel Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Tarabi Director Institute of Forest Sciences, Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies, Dr. Abid Shehzad Director International Linkages and Dr. Muhammad Rafi Associate Professor were also present on this occasion.

Conducted one-day seminar on Semiconductor and Nanotechnology Discipline at Institute of Physics, IUB 

Bahawalpur, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):A one-day seminar was organized on the subject of Semiconductor and Nanotechnology discipline organized by Institute of Physics Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Special Guest Director Institute of Physics Professor Dr. Saeed Ahmad Buzdar and Guest Speaker Dr. Abdul Associate Professor University of Electronics Science and Technology China, Nobel Laureate Quantum Entangle Minute 2022 attended.

Prof. Dr. Saeed Ahmed Buzdar said that thanks to the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Eng. Prof. Dr. Athar Mohibob, the Physics Department has been given the status of an Institute and this Institute is a part of the newly established Faculty of Physics and Mathematical Sciences.

While talking, Dr. Abdul gave information about semiconductor and nano technology as well as scholarship abroad. Dr. Faisal Iqbal, Head of Semiconductor and Nanotechnology highlighted the importance of Semiconductor and Nanotechnology.

Uzma Gillani, the world famous personality of Pakistani TV dramas, visited Islamia University Bahawalpur 

Bahawalpur, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):A world famous celebrity of Pakistan’s TV Drama Uzma Gillani visited the Islamia University Bahawalpur on Friday. The Department of Media and Communication Studies in collaboration with IUB Media Society and IUB Social Media Society organized a dialogue with her at Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat, Baghdad Ul Jadeed Campus.

Prof Dr Muhammad Shahzad, Chairman Department of Media and Communication Studies Prof Dr Muhammad Shahzad being host of the Dialogue moderated the session wherein Prof Dr Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences presided over it. Annual ceremony of Alumni Urdu Chapter was held at Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall Abbasia Campus, IUB 

Bahawalpur, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The annual ceremony of Alumni Urdu Chapter organized by the Directorate of Alumni Affairs, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur held at Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall, Abbasia Campus. Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob was the chief guest of the ceremony.

On this occasion eight students from Urdu Department received Alumni Urdu Chapter Scholarships and certificates for the best academic performance in the last semester. This scholarship has been named Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Alumni Scholarship.

Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob gave scholarships to these students in the presence of Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ahmed, Former Dean, Dr. Azhar Hussain, Director Alumni Affairs and Shahzad Ahmed Khalid, Director Press Media and Publications. On this occasion Vice Chancellor said that, The University has established an alumni network equipped with information technology on the lines of the major universities of the world today.

An alumni Portal has been established, containing the alumni of Islamia University of Bahawalpur connected from across the world. Presently this network consists of 20 thousand active members and will reach to one hundred thousand alumni.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the performance of Director Alumni Affairs, Dr. Azhar Hussain for activating the alumni of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Today a batch of 50 students from 1986 to 1995 academic session from Urdu Department of the Islamia University Bahawalpur participated.

Livestock farmer Mr Ahmad Malik paid visits at UVAS

Lahore, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Renowned Livestock farmer from Multan Mr Ahmad Malik paid visits to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and held a meeting with senior faculty member to discuss various issues related to farm management here on Monday at City Campus.

Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed Mr Ahmad Malik on the UVAS academic, research, extension, disease diagnostic and advisory services regarding farm management and training programmes etc. He also mentioned the contribution of UVAS for the prevention of deadly disease regarding clostridia syndrome, lumpy skin, hemorrhagic septicemia, foot and mouth and different poultry disease. During meeting faculty members of UVAS spoke about various aspects of farm management related to vaccination/deworming of animal, feed test for diagnosis of aflatoxin, record keeping, nutritionist consultation, veterinary doctor visit and discussed measures to be adopted about biosafety and biosecurity etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ahmad Malik acknowledged the role of UVAS for providing treatment and disease diagnostic facilities to save dairy animals and playing lead role for the benefit for livestock farming community. He praised UVAS state of the art disease prevention and diagnostic facilities to curb deadly disease. He also is willing to provide internship opportunities to UVAS students for their capacity building. Later Mr Ahmad Malik visited various departments of City Campus including Department of Meat Science and Technology, Pet Center and Quality Operation lab etc.
