Delegation from China’s Ningbo University visits IIUI 

Islamabad, February 09, 2023 (PPI-OT):A delegation from Ningbo University, China visited International Islamic University, Islamabad on Thursday where it called on the university President H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibiand also held meeting with the Dean and scientists of the Faculty of Sciences. Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of natural Sciences and vowed to work together on the joint projects. It was decided that follow up MoU and Frame-work will be established between both universities.

During the meeting with the delegation, The President of IIUI, Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, said the collaborations and partnership is a precious opportunity for both Universities. He added that IIUI is a leading international university and especially, hosting hundreds of Chinese students which is also another opportunity for expansion. He offered his full support to joint initiative and appreciated the ongoing progress between both universities.

On the occasion, Xinmin Liu and Professor Liu Yu from Ningbo University stressed for further expanding the joint academic teaching, research, projects, researcher and faculty exchanges between the two renowned universities. Professor Liu said he found immense pleasure for this opportunity for shared teaching, research supervision, project and exchanges. Professor Dr. Ahmed Shuja Ahmed Syed, Vice President (R and E), IIU encouraged this initiative with his full support.

The Chinese delegation was headed by Professor Dr. Xinmin Liu (Professor at Institute of Drug Discovery and Technology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and WHO Expert on Herbal Medicines). It was also accompanied by Associate Professor Dr. Xiang Ning, Associate Professor Dr. Yan Wang and Professor Dr. Atia-ul-Wahab.

This high-level academic visit was organized with the efforts of the joint research project of Professor Dr. Muhammad Riaz from CIRBS, IIUI, Professor Dr. Earlier, Professor Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, IIUI gave the welcome briefing which was followed by the presentation of Professor Dr. Xinmin Liu. Then Professor Dr. Muhammad Riaz presented the focused areas of collaborations and partnership. Briefly, shared courses and teaching, joint research supervisions, joint R and D projects, and researchers exchanges between universities starting with the area of medicinal chemistry and industrial biotechnology with CIRBS and joint project with CAEPE. At the end, The President presented a shield to Professor Dr. Xinmin Liu.

Secretary Livestock M Masood Anwar visits UVAS

Lahore, February 09, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) Muhammad Masood Anwar paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad on Thursday at City Campus.

Meanwhile Secretary Livestock chaired a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and discussed livestock disease related issues like prevention of lumpy skin, disease surveillance system, traceability and alternatives of poultry feed. He urged on the importance of modern technology like Nanotechnology for the treatment of livestock animals in the modern period. He praised UVAS quality of education and research especially its treatment and disease diagnosis facilities for the benefit of livestock farming community. He also lauded UVAS state of the art laboratories facilities for the imparting of practical work to students and maximum livestock farming community getting benefits from the labs of UVAS, he added.

Earlier, the Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed the Secretary Livestock on UVAS history, campuses, labs, academic, research and development projects, national and international collaborations, industry linkages, UVAS flood relief campaign 2022, ongoing research projects etc. He also showed a UVAS video documentary to Secretary Livestock give an overview of UVAS research, development interventions and student strength along with national and international collaboration.

Later Secretary Livestock along with Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad visited various department of City Campus including Veterinary Academy, Department of Meat Science and Technology, Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory, Pet Center, Quality Operation Laboratory, Out Door Hospital and Sports Complex where all the heads of these departments briefed Secretary Livestock regarding the role and functioning of these departments for the help of community. While visiting UVAS City Campus, Secretary Livestock planted a sapling outside Rest House for the promotion of greenery.

A large number of senior faculty members of the UVAS including Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Principal Officer City Campus Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Livestock Department officials Additional Secretary Planning Khalid Mahmood Chauhdary, Additional Secretary Admin Muhammad Tanveer Majid, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Asif Suleman Sahi and UVAS talented students who recently passed North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and researcher attended the meeting. At the end of the meeting VC Dr Nasim Ahmad presented a souvenir to Secretary Livestock.

NACTE team visits Turbat University 

Turbat, February 09, 2023 (PPI-OT):A team of the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) reached the University of Turbat (UoT) on 6th February 2023 on a three days visit to assess and evaluate M.A Education and B.Ed. (Hons) 4 Years programs are offered by the university. The Academic Evaluator team of NACTE consisted of experienced educators and researchers in the field of teacher education including Dr. Mian Hamid Hassan, the team leader, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary NACTE, and Dr. Abdul Nasir Kiazi, Director, Institute of Education and Research, University of Balochistan.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the teacher education programs offered by the university and to facilitate the university in enhancing and ensuring the quality of education in teacher education programs. On arrival at the university, the NACTE team was welcomed by Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and UoT along with Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, Dean, Faculty of Law, Ms. Ruqia Mirwani, Chairperson, Education Department, administrative staff and faculty members of the Education Department.

In his welcome address during the opening meeting, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor briefed the NACTE team regarding the background of the university and achievements accomplished by the university in the last ten years. He lauded NACTE’s commitment in promoting high-quality teacher education programs in Pakistan.

Sharing views on the occasion, the chairperson of the Education Department presented a detailed overview of the academic programs, curricular and extracurricular activities, infrastructure, faculty and student strength, and other facilities available at the Education Department. Speaking on the occasion, the Sectary NACTE highlighted the functions and scope of the NACTE.

In the exit meeting, the NACTE team also held discussions with the university administration regarding the university’s vision and its plans for future growth and development of teacher education in the university. The NACTE team appreciated the teamwork and collective efforts of the faculty members, administrative staff, deans, and especially QEC officials for the academic progress of the university including teacher’s education programs under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed presented the commemorative shield of the university to the members of the NACTE team. Meanwhile, Ms. Ruqia Mirwani extended her gratitude to the academic and administrative officials of the university including the Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Dean Faculty, and Director QEC for their support during the NACTE team visit to the university.

ISSI hosted ACD Secretary General for Roundtable on Connectivity 

Islamabad, February 09, 2023 (PPI-OT):The China-Pakistan Study Centre (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organized a Roundtable on “Development through Connectivity: Asian Perspective,” The Keynote Speaker for the event was H.E. Dr. Pornchai Danvivathana, Secretary General, and Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD). The event was attended by diplomats, dignitaries, scholars, students, journalists, and people from different walks of life.

In his introductory remarks, Dr. Talat Shabbir, Director CPSC, introduced the Asia Cooperation Dialogue to the participants. He said that Asia Cooperation Dialogue is an intergovernmental organization established in June 2002 in Thailand. He added that ACD is important as it provides a forum to Asian countries to exchange views on areas of mutual interest including peace and development. The organization covers West Asia, South Asia, East Asia, and North-East Asia, he added.

In his remarks DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood extended a warm welcome to the Secretary General on his first visit to Pakistan and to ISSI for this interactive session. He highlighted the key aspects of ACD’s vision as an inclusive, continent-wide cooperative framework and its emphasis on mutual peace and economic growth.

He further highlighted ACD’s evolution and working mechanisms (dialogue and projects) as well as Pakistan’s role in promoting the ACD process as a founding member. He noted that Pakistan had become a ‘Prime Mover’ on Connectivity and ‘Co-Prime Mover’ on Culture and Tourism.

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood underlined that it was important to keep focus on ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ connectivity and promote greater people-to-people exchanges. He stressed that the ACD’s goal of building an ‘Asian Community’ was laudable and it must be advanced in an environment conducive for conflict resolution and greater amity and cooperation in the Continent.

In his remarks, Mr. Amer Ahmad Atozai, Director General (East Asia and Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, appreciated ISSI’s initiative to invite Secretary General Dr. Pornchai Danvivathana and thanked for hosting the event. Mr. Atozai said that the Asian countries continue to suffer from poverty, climate change, food insecurity, and various other challenges. He said that the solution to such unprecedented problems lay, inter alia, in regional connectivity.

Mr. Atozai argued that Pakistan could serve as a major hub to achieving such connectivity. Pakistan has a consumer economy of more than 220 million people and to facilitate connectivity, it has liberalised its visa policy, he added.

In his Keynote Address on the subject, Secretary General Dr. Pornchai Danvivathana, thanked the ISSI for hosting him. Dr. Pornchai said that the entire concept of development is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and declared the latter as the blueprint for peace and prosperity. He added that the need of the hour was to act upon the UN SDGs to achieve sustainable development and to save the environment.

He further said that countries needed to strike a balance between development and protecting the environment. He noted that ACD has a total of 35 members and it is promoting effective management of resources including human resources.

Dr. Pornchai argued that connectivity was the key to trade and development, and depending on the region, it involved both physical and non-physical components. He also underscored the importance of addressing the ‘development gap’ and the ‘digital divide.’

He stressed that connectivity alleviates economic and social disparities. Dr. Pornchai highlighted that connectivity has great potential to bring peace and prosperity in Asia. He concluded by saying that “together we share, and together we care.”

In his concluding remarks Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman Board of Governors ISSI, appreciated the efforts being made by ACD and its Secretary General and underlined that the future of Asia lies in development through connectivity. The event was moderated by Dr. Talat Shabbir and was followed by an engaging Q and A session.

Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Secretary General Dr. Pooranchai Danvivathanatha was the keynote speaker of the event. The ceremony was attended by diplomats, intellectuals, students, journalists and people from different walks of life.
