IRD holds seminar on “Madrassa Reforms: Indonesia’s Experience”

Islamabad, July 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Madrassa has a vital role to spread peace and tolerance in the society, provision of awareness to modern advancements and inclusion of best pedagogies in the Madrassa curriculum may result in stability, peace and prosperity. Said experts of a one day seminar on “Madrassa Reforms: Indonesia’s experience” organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of International Islamic university.

The seminar was attended by Ambassador of Indonesia, H.E. Adam Mulawarman Tugio, Dr. Masoom Yasinai Rector IIUI, diplomats and religious scholars of Indonesia, Chairman CII Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Vice President Academics Dr. Ayaz Asfar, Executive Director IRD Dr. Husn ul Amin and other distinguished scholars, researchers and educationists.

The Seminar discussed the importance of seminary leaders in peace-making, peace building, understanding conflicts, conflict resolution and the responsible use of social media. The Ambassador of Indonesia underscored the need of equipping the Madrassa students with all the advancements and urged that they must be taught in an environment where they may have an exposure to the new phenomena such as use of social media and utilization of technology to disseminate Islam’s message of peace.

He hailed IIUI for its service for Islam and dissemination of its message. He said presence of a large number of Indonesia students in the seminar is a matter of pride for us and IIUI both. Dr Qibla Ayaz stressed to bridge the gap between the bureaucracy and the administration of Madrassa adding that there must be steps to clear the ambiguities and misconceptions from both sides. He also highlighted the role of Madrassa and historical importance in the sub-continent.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai called for Madrassa reforms with a focus on integration of religious education with the modern advancements and technology. He said a religious scholar being an alumnus of a Madrassa will be a best balanced and harmonious person who would have a proper knowledge to the prevalent circumstances and he will also be having a background of religious guideline to deal with situations accordingly.

He stressed upon the need of removing constraints in bringing the Madrassa in the streamline and allowing religious scholars to solve the issues being faced by society. They can be the best opinion leaders he said. Earlier, Dr. Husn ul Amin highlighted the importance of Madrassa in a Muslim society and briefed about the details and objectives of the program.

Punjab University pays tribute to late Dr. Nusair Ahmed 

Lahore, July 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Officers Welfare Association on Thursday organized a condolence reference to pay tribute to the landmark services of late Dr. Nusair Ahmed, former senior medical officer, PU Health Centre, who died of cardiac arrest a few days ago. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Dr. Muhammad Khalid Khan, Academic Staff Association President Prof Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Muhammad Akram, Chief Librarian Dr. Muhammad Haroon Usmani, President Officers Welfare Association Jalil Tariq, faculty members, family members and a number of officials participated in the event. Prof Dr. Saleem Mazhar said that Dr. Nusair was an example of honesty and dedication for others.

He said that he brought a good name for Punjab University through his services. Dr. Khalid Khan said that Dr. Nusair was a pious man who always solved problems of others on priority. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar said that the services of Dr. Nusair Ahmed would be remembered in golden words. Jalil Tariq said that Dr. Nusair Ahmed was a hardworking person and a senior doctor. Dr. Akram said that Dr. Nusair was a punctual doctor and the gap he left can’t be fulfilled. Dr. Haroon Usmani said that he had almost fifty years of friendship with Dr. Nusair and he could not forget his companionship forever. The participants also offered dua for the departed soul.

3rd Webinar Plastic Pollution Free Pakistan

Lahore, July 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Series of Awareness Webinars (Hybrid Events) on Plastic Pollution Free Pakistan was organized by the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES), University of the Punjab, Lahore on 1st, 8th and 29th July, 2021. These webinars focused on the theme of Plastic Free Pakistan in order to create awareness among the individuals / public.

Today, on July 29, 2021 the 3rd and final webinar was held in context of Plastic Pollution Free Pakistan and the Chief Guest for this webinar was Mr. Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General, WWF-Pakistan. The third webinar was started with the verses from the Holy Quran followed by Naat. This webinar was proceeded with the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Sajid Rashid Ahmad. He described that how plastic is destroying our environment.

The first speaker of the webinar was Dr. Abdul Qadir, Associate Professor at the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES), University of the Punjab, Lahore. His topic of presentation was “Surveillance of Plastic Pollution on Ecological Integrity of River Ravi and Chenab, Pakistan”.

Ms. Anum Tariq, Lecturer, CEES, P.U., Lahore was the second presenter. Her Topic of Presentation was “Impact of Microplastic Pollution on Feeding and Nesting Behavior of Birds”.

Javeria Tahir, young researcher of Lahore College for Women University, Lahore presented on Impacts of Microplastic Pollution on Environmental Matrices of Namal Lake.

A very well-known researcher Dr. Abdul Sattar Nizami from Sustainable Development Study Centre, Government College University (GCU), Lahore also joined the webinar to present on Plastic Waste Driven Factories – A cure or Curse?

Another young researcher of the CEES, P.U., Lahore Ms. Mehrab-e-Ahmad and Ms. Samia Farooq gave their lecture on “Spatio-temporal Distribution of Microplastics on Macrobrachum Sp. In Riverine Ecosystem”.

Dr. Wenwen Gong, Associate Research Fellow, in Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, China gave an Interactive Session on the topic “What Impacts do we Expect from Plastic Particles in Agro-Ecosystem?

Dr. Muhammad Maaz Arif from Department of Community Health Sciences, Fatima Memorial Hospital, College of Medicine and Dentistry, Lahore, Pakistan highlighted the Effects of Micro and Nanoplastic on Human Health.

Dr. Saira Taj, Technical Expert from PCSIR informed the audience about Formulation and Use of Biodegradable Plastic as an Alternative Packing Material.

The last speaker Dr. Alice Horton, Principal Investigator at Anthropogenic Contaminants, National Oceanography Centre, United Kingdom (UK) described the “Plastic Cycle: Land, Rivers and Oceans”.

Lastly, Mr. Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General WWF-Pakistan was the Chief Guest of the webinar addressed the audience about the Role of WWF for Eliminating Plastic Pollution in Pakistan.

Mr. Hammad and Prof. Dr. Sajid Rashid Ahmad also distributed prizes among the winners of Poster and Documentary. The winner of the documentary was Ms. Mehrab and Ms. Samiya from CEES, P.U., Lahore and the winner of poster competition was Ms. Sadaf Tagor, US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Water, Mehran University, Jamshoro, Sindh.

At the end Prof. Dr. Sajid Rashid Ahmad concluded the event by thanking all the participants, the organizers Dr. Abdul Qadir, Ms. Anam Tariq and all the volunteers who made this event successful.

Pakistan Olympic Association greatly disappointed and expresses serious concern on the remarks of national Badminton player Ms. Mahoor Shahzad

Lahore, July 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) is greatly disappointed and expresses serious concern on the remarks of national Badminton player represented Pakistan at Olympics Ms. Mahoor Shahzad. We strongly believe that any kind of discrimination by words or actions under any circumstances is against the Olympic Spirit and therefore the comment is strongly condemned.

POA has advised Pakistan Badminton Federation to submit a detailed report within a week with their recommendations, on receipt of which POA shall take necessary and appropriate measures.

Mian Mohammad Ahsan receives honorary doctorate degree from University of Engineering and Technology

Lahore, July 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, awarded an honorary doctorate degree to Mian Mohammad Ahsan, director Board of Directors, Indus Hospital and Health Network and CEO, US Group, on Friday, July 30, 2021, for his outstanding contribution towards the business and philanthropic sectors in Pakistan.

Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Governor Punjab, and Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, conferred the degree in a ceremony at the Governor House, Punjab. Mian Mohammad Ahsan is also the senior vice-chairman of Naimat Saleem Trust, which spearheads several welfare projects in the realm of healthcare, education, and provision of meals to the people of Punjab.

Currently, he serves as a board member of the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Trust and the Indus Hospital and Health Network. Mian Muhammad Ahsan’s relentless efforts towards bettering the lives of the local communities has made him a trusted name in the philanthropic sphere.

Mian Mohammad Ahsan has been instrumental in building Indus Hospital and Health Network’s 13th hospital in the country, the Indus Hospital and Health Network – QF, NST and SMP Campus in Jubilee Town, Lahore. The state-of-the-art hospital is being built with the support of Qarshi Foundation, Naimat Saleem Trust, and S.M. Pervez of Din Group of Companies.

Recently, Mian Talat Mahmood, Managing Director, Orient Group of Companies, was awarded an honorary doctorate degree.
