Larkana, Mir Muhammad Kahower and his family, residents of Ghazi Khan Kahower village in Qamber taluk, have alleged that a group of local influential figures and miscreants forcibly occupied their agricultural land and are demanding extortion money. The Kahower family made these claims during a press conference at the Larkana Press Club.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, the Kahower family, including Mir Muhammad, his brother Noor Ahmad Kahower, and Soot Pir Muhammad Kahower, stated that their ancestral land in Deh Kabiru, survey number 288, comprising 9 acres, has been under their cultivation for years. However, they claimed that recently, individuals from the village, including Rafiq Ahmed alias Akash Kahower, Muhammad Aslam Kahower, and others, have been demanding Rs. 35 lakh from them.
On October 20th, these influential figures allegedly occupied the Kahower family’s land and began cultivating it themselves. Despite lodging a complaint with the Mahi Mukul police station, the family claims that the occupation of their land continues, and they now face life-threatening intimidation to relinquish ownership of the land.
The Kahower family further alleged that this coercion is backed by other influential locals, Qurban Ali Khawar and Nazir Khawar, causing them to fear for their lives and financial security. They have appealed to high-ranking officials, including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, the Army Chief, the Chief Minister of Sindh, IG Sindh, DIG Larkana, and SSP Qamber Shahdadkot, for intervention. They seek removal of the encroachment from their agricultural land and protection from the extortionists.
This case highlights the plight of rural landowners facing threats and illegal occupation by powerful local figures, reflecting broader issues of land rights and law enforcement in rural Pakistan.
