US Consul General Engages with University of Sargodha Community at Lincoln Corner

Sargodha, US Consul General Kristin K. Hawkins from the Lahore Consulate made a notable visit to the Lincoln Corner at the University of Sargodha on Sunday. The visit provided an opportunity for engaging discussions and exchange of ideas between the Consul General and the university community.

According to University of Sargodha, Hawkins’ visit began with a productive meeting with Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mian Gulham Yasin. She then met with the staff of Lincoln Corner and engaged with Friends of Corner, discussing their roles, responsibilities, future goals, and career aspirations as volunteers.

During her visit, Hawkins shared insights from her previous tenure in Pakistan between 2015 and 2017, where she worked on various exchange programs. She highlighted different US scholarships, such as the Fulbright program, and explained how students could benefit from these opportunities.

In a gesture that celebrated the local culture, students from Sargodha showcased the city’s achievements and strengths, presenting 3D printed models of oranges, a symbol of the region’s agricultural prominence. Hawkins expressed her admiration and appreciation for this creative display.

The interaction with students was particularly engaging, focusing on their aspirations and discussing potential future collaborations. These discussions underscored the importance of academic and cultural exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

The session concluded with a thank-you note from the focal person, Prof. Dr. Ijaz Asghar, who requested the expansion of facilities at the university, including GRE preparation and testing centers, to benefit the students of Sargodha.
