New Zealand’s Ben Sears Ruled Out of West Indies ODIs Due to Ankle Injury

Wellington: New Zealand has encountered an injury setback prior to its One Day International series against the West Indies as fast bowler Ben Sears is sidelined due to an ankle injury. Sears had been managing discomfort in his ankle since a Test match against Ireland in May, which worsened during a subsequent Test against England.

According to International Cricket Council: New Zealand decided to send Sears home for further assessment and treatment to ensure his long-term fitness. As a result, Ben Lister has been added to the 16-man squad as Sears' replacement. Lister, a left-arm pacer who debuted in ODIs against Pakistan in Karachi earlier in 2023, has represented New Zealand 17 times across formats, claiming 17 international wickets. He was part of the recent ODI series against Bangladesh in April.

Lister will join a pace lineup that includes Jacob Duffy, Nathan Smith, Kristian Clarke, and Matt Fisher. The team’s spin department will be led by returning captain Mitchell Santner, alongside Michael Bracewell and Jayden Lennox. The ODI series is set to commence on July 11 in Guyana, with subsequent matches on July 13 and 16 in Guyana, followed by games in Barbados on July 19 and 21.
