Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore celebrated its 14th Convocation, presided over by the Chancellor and Governor of Punjab, Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman. The event was attended by dignitaries and members from various sectors, including the Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission, the Chinese Consul General in Lahore, and the Vice-Chancellor of UVAS.
According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, a total of 1,761 graduates received degrees, and 63 position holders were awarded medals. The graduates included 60 PhDs, 623 MPhils, 222 DVMs, 706 BS (Hons), 82 Pharm-D, 1 Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics, 8 MBA (Executive), and 59 BBA (Hons) students.
Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to serve humanity diligently. He praised the progress of UVAS in global and national university rankings, its achievements in sports, and its milestone in obtaining a drug manufacturing license and registration from DRAP for Foot & Mouth vaccine production. The Governor emphasized the significant role of the livestock sector in ensuring food security and poverty reduction in Pakistan.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad highlighted UVAS’s academic and research achievements, including its ranking among the top 801-1000 universities globally and third in Punjab’s public sector. UVAS awarded over Rs. 103 million in scholarships to 1,359 students in the fiscal year. Prof Ahmad also mentioned the university’s engagement in 79 research projects worth over Rs 1,027 million and the ongoing development projects funded by the HEC and Punjab Government. He spoke about UVAS’s contributions to community service, including assistance to flood-affected families and a focus on entrepreneurship and job creation among graduates.
The convocation was not only a celebration of the academic achievements of the graduates but also a testament to UVAS’s commitment to research, development, and community service. The university’s efforts in vaccine research and development, clinical and extension services, and policy framework were specifically highlighted as significant contributions to the community and industry.
