University of the Punjab Hosts Seminar on GIS Applications in Building Information Modeling and Geotechnics

Lahore, The Centre for Geographical Information System (CGIS) at the University of the Punjab, as part of its GIS Talk Series on Emerging Topics in Earth Observation and Spatial Data Science, recently held an international seminar titled “GIS Applications in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geotechnics.” The event brought together a wide array of participants ranging from students to professionals, all keen on exploring the integration of GIS with BIM and geotechnical engineering.

According to University of The Punjab, the seminar featured Dr. Sajid Ali, a GIS analyst at HPC AG in Hamburg, Germany, and an alumnus of the University of the Punjab. Dr. Ali, who completed his PhD from RWTH Aachen University in 2020, shared insights from his extensive research in natural hazards, marine geosciences, and tectonophysics. His expertise provided a comprehensive overview of how GIS technology can be effectively applied in the fields of building information modeling and geotechnics, areas critical for the planning and management of construction projects and natural hazard assessment.

The seminar not only served as an educational platform for current students of the university but also engaged professionals and alumni through a live online broadcast via Google Meet. This approach facilitated a broader dissemination of knowledge and allowed participants from various sectors to gain valuable insights into cutting-edge applications of GIS technology.
