Uganda Qualifies for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Following Historic Win Over Rwanda

Dubai, Uganda has successfully secured their first-ever spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Rwanda by nine wickets. This victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa qualifier ensures Uganda a top-two finish, marking their debut in a senior ICC World Cup.

According to International Cricket Council, Uganda joins Namibia as the qualifiers from Africa for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will host 20 teams for the first time. The final list of qualified teams includes Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Uganda, and the United States.

Uganda’s path to qualification was impressive, with victories against Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Kenya, and a sole loss to Namibia. In their decisive match against Rwanda, Uganda’s bowlers Alpesh Ramjani, Brian Masaba, Henry Ssenyondo, and Dinesh Nakrani played pivotal roles, restricting Rwanda to 65 runs. The team achieved their target in just 8.1 overs, with standout performances from batsmen Simon Ssesazi, Ronak Patel, and Roger Mukasa.
