Dubai, The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews as the recipients of the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for October 2023. Their exceptional performances in international cricket earned them this prestigious recognition.
According to International Cricket Council, 23-year-old Blackcaps batter Rachin Ravindra secured his first ICC Men’s Player of the Month award with standout performances in the group stages of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Ravindra’s remarkable innings included a spectacular 123 not out against England in Ahmedabad, half-centuries against the Netherlands and India, and a striking 116 against Australia in Dharamsala. He totaled 406 runs at an average of 81.20 across six October fixtures.
On the women’s side, Hayley Matthews claimed her second ICC Women’s Player of the Month award following her dominant display in the T20I series against Australia. Matthews, the top-ranked all-rounder in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings, showcased her prowess with both bat and ball. Her notable performances included an unbeaten 99 against Australia in North Sydney, a blistering 132 not out in a chase of 213, and a half-century in the final fixture, accumulating 310 runs at an average of 155 in the series.
The winners were chosen based on votes from global fans registered at icc-cricket.com and a specialist panel, including ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives. Ravindra and Matthews emerged victorious over other nominees, including India’s Jasprit Bumrah, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, Bangladesh’s Nahida Akhter, and New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr.
Reflecting on his achievement, Ravindra expressed gratitude for the award, highlighting the special experience of playing a World Cup in India and the team’s support.
