Quetta Gladiators’ Abrar Ahmed and Saud Shakeel Penalized for Code of Conduct Violations

Karachi, Quetta Gladiators cricketers Abrar Ahmed and Saud Shakeel were fined five percent of their match fees for breaching the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) code of conduct during their game against Islamabad United.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, both players were involved in separate incidents during the PSL fixture at the National Bank Stadium, leading to Level 1 sanctions under the league’s disciplinary framework.

Abrar Ahmed’s breach pertained to his non-compliance with an umpire’s directive, as stipulated under Article 2.4 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct, during the 19th over of the match. Specifically, he was reprimanded for rolling the ball along the ground despite clear instructions from the umpiring officials to refrain from such actions.

On a different note, Saud Shakeel’s infringement involved behavior deemed potentially provocative towards a batsman, aligning with Article 2.5 of the Code. This occurred after Shakeel dismissed Islamabad United’s Salman Ali Agha and subsequently approached the player in a manner that risked inciting an aggressive response.

The disciplinary actions against Ahmed and Shakeel were based on their admissions of guilt and acceptance of the fines proposed by match referee Mohammad Javed, following the charge levied by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Gaffaney. These penalties reflect the PSL’s commitment to maintaining a respectful and orderly conduct throughout the competition, ensuring that all players adhere to the established norms and regulations of the sport.
