Lahore, At the 3rd National Conference on Research Education (NCOR), Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood emphasized the importance of collective efforts to advance education for the country’s development. The conference, organized by the Punjab University Institute of Education and Research, focused on the theme ‘Higher Education Institutions and Governmental Priorities.’
According to University of The Punjab, Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, in his address, highlighted the critical need for the development of higher education in Pakistan to be a top priority for the government. He expressed concern over the societal undervaluing of education and the challenges faced by universities due to insufficient financial support. Specifically, he mentioned the financial constraints faced by Punjab University due to a lack of adequate funding from the federal government over the past six years.
Dr. Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry, Director of the Institute of Education and Research, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the significance of knowledge as a source of wisdom and success in both this world and the hereafter. He underlined the emphasis on acquiring knowledge in Islam.
Social worker Raja Munawar stressed that the pursuit of knowledge should extend beyond mere economic gains, viewing education as a beneficial ‘shadow’ that provides ease to people. Prof Dr. Muhammad Shahid Farooq, Chairman of the Department of Advanced Studies in Education, mentioned that 18 experts shared their insights across three sessions of the conference. He highlighted VC Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood’s vision of promoting the national language in Pakistan, noting that research papers were presented in Urdu at the conference.
The NCOR conference brought together researchers, academicians, faculty members, and students to discuss the alignment of higher education institutions with governmental priorities and the broader role of education in national development. The emphasis was on the collective responsibility of educational institutions to contribute vigorously to the promotion of knowledge and research.
The successful organization of the conference was acknowledged by VC Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, who congratulated the organizers and reiterated the crucial role of joint efforts in fostering educational advancement in Pakistan.
