Karachi, Following a reduction in petroleum product prices, the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) has urged that these savings be passed on to consumers through lower food and transport costs. Party leaders emphasized the need for a more robust price control system to ensure that benefits are effectively distributed to the public.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Chairman Altaf Shakur and Vice Chairman Abdul Hakim Quaid stressed the importance of immediate adjustments in public transport fares and food prices in response to the decreased cost of petroleum. They advocated for the reactivation of price control magistrates and committees to monitor and enforce fair pricing, specifically targeting hoarders and unfair market practices.
The leaders pointed out that while prices of public transport and food typically rise with increases in petroleum costs, they do not fall correspondingly when petroleum prices drop, a discrepancy attributed to weaknesses in the provincial and local price control systems. The party has called on the government to issue new transport fares and ensure their strict implementation by regional transport authorities to extend the economic benefits of reduced petroleum prices to all sectors of society.
The meeting held in Orangi Town also saw the announcement of a new six-member organizing committee, reflecting the party’s ongoing efforts to organize and mobilize at the local level to advocate for these changes.
