Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Advocates for Environmental Justice on World Environment Day

Karachi, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), emphasized the urgent need for environmental protection and climate action in his message for World Environment Day. Highlighting Pakistan’s severe challenges related to climate change, including frequent floods, droughts, and extreme weather, Zardari called on the international community to deliver on promises of environmental justice for Pakistan.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the PPP Chairman, in his role as former Foreign Minister, has actively presented Pakistan’s environmental grievances on the global stage, labeling the country as a “twin victim” of climate change and environmental injustice. He stressed the importance of the rapid implementation and expansion of the Loss and Damage Fund to support nations disproportionately affected by climate changes.

Zardari also outlined the PPP’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection, referencing the construction of climate-proof houses for the two million victims of the 2022 floods in Sindh as a model for global emulation. He reaffirmed the party’s stance that development should not come at the expense of the environment.

Furthermore, Zardari expressed his gratitude towards various institutions, organizations, and individuals dedicated to environmental conservation, emphasizing that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility that transcends national and organizational boundaries. He called for global solidarity in efforts to safeguard the planet for present and future generations.
