Pasban Democratic Party Advocates for Immediate Installation of Net Meters to Boost Solar Energy Use

Karachi, In a recent press release, the Pasban Democratic Party urged for the prompt installation of net meters in Pakistan to support solar energy systems and address the nation’s severe energy shortages. Chief Organizer Tariq Chandiwala emphasized that the current lack of a clear energy policy is deterring investment in this crucial sector, thereby exacerbating the energy crisis.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the government’s failure to provide net metering facilities swiftly is costing the country billions of rupees annually. Although citizens are investing heavily in solar systems, they are not receiving the necessary support from electricity supply companies, which are struggling with a complex approval process managed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra). Nepra’s officials, preoccupied with addressing past fuel adjustments, have been slow to authorize net metering, delaying potential economic and energy gains from solar power.

Chandiwala criticized the slow pace of renewable energy initiatives and the entrenched interests that profit from the current inefficient system, which relies heavily on expensive and unsustainable energy sources. He questioned the long-term viability of relying on traditional energy methods and highlighted the lack of progress on alternative solutions like biogas and waste-to-energy plants, which could further alleviate the country’s energy problems.

The chief organizer called for a decisive shift towards sustainable energy practices, reflecting global trends and responding to the economic and environmental needs of Pakistan. The party’s statement concluded with a call to action for policymakers to prioritize the nation’s energy sustainability over the interests of a few, signaling a push towards resolving the longstanding energy crisis that affects millions of Pakistanis.
