Karachi, The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) marked the 45th anniversary of its founding chairman, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, at the People’s Secretariat Karachi. Leaders of the party paid homage to Bhutto’s achievements, such as the creation of Pakistan’s consensus constitution, initiating the nuclear program, and democratizing political participation in the country.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the celebration in Karachi included speeches by PPP Sindh General Secretary Waqar Mehdi and Karachi Division President Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, among others. They recounted Bhutto’s contributions and condemned his judicial execution, calling it a conspiracy against the party and Pakistan. The gathering also highlighted Bhutto’s role in fostering a positive international image for Pakistan.
The event, which was attended by numerous party leaders and members, included tributes to Bhutto’s daughter, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, and other PPP martyrs, with prayers for their eternal peace. It was announced that the main anniversary event would take place on April 14, deviating from the traditional date of April 4.
Mehdi reflected on Bhutto’s enduring popularity and contrasted it with the disgraced memory of dictator Ziaul Haq, under whose regime Bhutto was executed. Ghani emphasized the significance of this year’s commemoration, noting recent court acknowledgments that Bhutto did not receive justice.
The speakers collectively praised Bhutto’s vision and resilience in face of adversity, acknowledging his efforts that led to Pakistan becoming a formidable nuclear power in the Islamic world. The sentiment at the event was clear: Bhutto’s legacy continues to resonate strongly within the PPP and across Pakistan.
