Perth, The Pakistan cricket team has been fined 10 percent of their match fee and penalized two points in the ICC World Test Championship for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first Test against Australia in Perth.
According to International Cricket Council, the penalty was imposed by Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Pakistan was found to be two overs short of the target after considering time allowances, leading to the sanctions.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. Furthermore, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a team is penalized one point for each over short. As a result, Pakistan has had two points deducted from their total in the World Test Championship.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction, obviating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough, and fourth umpire Donovan Koch.
