Pakistan and Iran Commit to Expanding Bilateral Cooperation and Trade

Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic engagement, Pakistan and Iran have committed to expanding their bilateral cooperation and increasing trade volumes up to $10 billion. This pledge was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi at Aiwan-e-Sadr on April 22, 2024.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including bilateral trade and regional challenges, emphasizing the need to operationalize trade mechanisms to enhance economic ties. The discussions also covered key regional and global developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East, where both presidents expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

President Zardari condemned the military actions in Gaza and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He acknowledged the historical and cultural bonds between Pakistan and Iran, thanking President Raisi for his visit, which symbolized Iran’s commitment to strengthening ties post-Pakistan’s general elections.

Additionally, President Raisi stressed the importance of expanding and consolidating relations in all sectors, noting the potential to boost bilateral trade significantly. He also lauded Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people amid the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

The meeting highlighted the shared perspectives of both nations on major international issues and their resolve to further deepen the fraternal ties between Pakistan and Iran for mutual benefit.
