Old Ravians Union Celebrates Reunion at Government College University, Lahore

Lahore, A grand reunion hosted by the Old Ravians Union at Government College University, Lahore, brought together alumni from several generations to reconnect and reminisce about their college days. The event, featuring notable attendees including legal and educational dignitaries, underscored the enduring bonds and cultural significance of the institution to its former students.

According to Government College University, the reunion was chaired by Professor Dr. Shazia Bashir, the first female Vice Chancellor of the university, who emphasized the unique and global community formed by the Old Ravians. During the event, Dr. Bashir also took pride in the university’s historic contributions to Pakistan’s atomic program. The gathering was graced by the presence of the Federal Minister of Law, Azam Nazir Tarar, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, and PEMRA Chairman, Saleem Baig, each of whom reflected on their personal connections to the university and its impact on their lives.

Federal Minister Tarar shared fond memories of his student days and pledged his full support to the university’s current administration to maintain its educational standards. PEMRA Chairman Baig highlighted the university’s profound cultural impact, describing it as a transformative community rather than merely an educational institution.

Syed Tayyab Hussain Rizvi, President of the Old Ravians Union, announced the launch of a new social media platform and a dedicated club to better connect Old Ravians worldwide. He also called for increased teacher salaries to attract top educators. Additionally, Shahid Mahmood, Director General of LESCO, and Dr. Daniyal Nagi, a Professor of Medicine, each pledged one million rupees to support financially struggling students of GCU.

The event also featured a proposal by the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly for a partnership between the Old Ravians Union and the Punjab Assembly to foster public policy and legislative training among alumni. The reunion concluded with the presentation of shields to distinguished Old Ravians, celebrating their achievements in various fields.
