Lahore, In a move to promote women’s empowerment and mobility, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in collaboration with Atlas Honda Limited, launched the ‘Women in Charge’ initiative on February 15, 2024. The program is designed to provide women with the skills and confidence to ride bikes, enhancing their independence and ability to navigate the roads safely.
According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the initiative began with an inaugural session that underscored the significance of empowering women through improved mobility. Mr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, General Manager After Sales at Atlas Honda, delivered the keynote address, praising the joint efforts that made the program possible.
Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director of the Office of Advancement at LUMS, highlighted Atlas Honda’s commitment and the existing strong ties with the university, emphasizing the importance of initiatives focused on women’s empowerment.
The event included a hands-on simulation for participants, followed by a two-week practical bike riding boot camp. The training covered critical road safety practices, response strategies to common road hazards, and the effective use of horns and mirrors to maintain situational awareness.
In support of the LUMS community, Atlas Honda extended special benefits, including discounts on vehicle maintenance and complimentary services for bike users. The ‘Women in Charge’ initiative wrapped up with an interactive Q and A session, promoting dialogue and exchange of ideas on mobility and safety.
The initiative marks a significant step in bolstering the confidence of women on campus, with the aim of translating these skills into broader societal change.
