Lahore Division Dominates with Impressive Win in Rising Punjab Games Hockey Championship

Lahore: The Rising Punjab Games 2024, under the auspices of the Sports Board Punjab (SBP), continued to thrill on its second day at Nishtar Park Sports Complex (NPSC) sports venues. The hockey matches, in particular, saw the Lahore division recording the day’s biggest victory.

According to Sports Board Punjab, Director General Sports Punjab Dr. Asif Tufail attended the games, praising the players’ performance. He also shared that the SBP would conduct Spring and Summer Games following the Winter Games, with a total of 18 games planned under the Rising Punjab Games initiative, part of the SBP’s Annual Sports Calendar Programme.

Dr. Tufail emphasized that all players were selected through merit-based trials, and top performers would form Punjab teams for the National Games and inter-provincial games. He highlighted the Punjab government’s support in successfully conducting the Rising Punjab Games, which has become a platform for new talent emergence.

In the day’s matches, the Lahore division hockey team achieved a remarkable 13-0 win over DG Khan. Abdur Rehman, the standout player for Lahore, scored seven goals, while Adeel Lateef added two. Other goal scorers included Gul Sher, Ali Aziz, Samiullah, and Abdul Qayyum.

The volleyball championship saw Sahiwal division defeating Lahore, and Faisalabad triumphing over Sargodha. In another impressive hockey match, Bahawalpur Division secured an 11-0 win against DG Khan. Faisalabad division also recorded victories in their matches against Gujranwala and Sargodha.

These games underscore the SBP’s commitment to fostering sports talent in Punjab and providing competitive platforms for athletes across various disciplines.
