Karachi’s Public Transport Woes Highlighted by Pasban Democratic Party Chairman

Karachi, The Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, Altaf Shakoor, has criticized the delay in the construction of the Red Line BRT on University Road, asserting that it has become a significant inconvenience for the citizens of Karachi. Shakoor contends that the lack of urgency from government officials has compounded the city’s ongoing public transportation issues.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor voiced his concerns over the slow progress of the Red Line BRT project, a key transport initiative for Karachi, during a Pasban Steering Committee meeting. He pointed out that while the citizens grapple with inadequate public transport options, the city’s authorities, including Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, seem disconnected from these pressing realities.

Shakoor also remarked on the current state of the Lyari Expressway, which suffers from traffic congestion due to encroachments at its entry and exit points. He suggested that a holistic approach involving federal, provincial, and city departments is necessary to address the transportation issues comprehensively. Moreover, he brought attention to the potential of utilizing the banks of the Lyari River for traffic, particularly when the riverbed is dry.

The chairman lamented the condition of other transportation projects in Karachi, such as the partially completed Green Line BRT and the sidelined Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). He called on Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and other relevant officials to prioritize the city’s transport infrastructure and expedite the completion of the Red Line BRT to alleviate the suffering of Karachi’s residents.
